Objective

As a Data Architect, your job is to connect teams with different skills to build the best data systems using new technology. You are the main person who connects the business people with the technical teams. Your job is to make sure the data systems we create are exactly what the business needs. You should be good at using agile methods, which means you can finish projects well and fast. Also, you should focus on DataOps—this means you make sure that the data systems are safe, only the right people can access them, we keep the data for the right amount of time, and we organise the data properly.

Responsibilities

Define scalable data architectures aligned with business needs, project requirements, and future growth.
Ensure adherence to data governance policies and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Evaluate and select appropriate technologies and standards for implementing the data architecture.
Oversee the integration of disparate data sources, both structured and unstructured, facilitating seamless data flow across systems.
Develop strategies for incorporating emerging data sources and technologies, such as IoT devices and real-time data streams.
Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity during data system failures or breaches.
Elaborate and validate diagrams and technical documentation that detail the structure and components of the data system.
Establish data quality frameworks ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data.
Collaborate with development teams, providing guidance and technical support for the implementation of data architecture.
Advocate for and implement data mesh principles, promoting a decentralized approach to data ownership and management.
Facilitate cross-functional teams to treat data as a product, encouraging domain-oriented data ownership.
Lead data engineering efforts, establishing best practices for data pipeline development, data modeling, and architecture.
Ensure robust data ingestion, transformation, and validation processes to support data availability and quality.
Identify technical risks and propose solutions to mitigate them.
Perform code reviews, ensuring compliance with architectural guidelines and development best practices.
Foster innovation and continuous improvement by staying current with technological trends and proposing the adoption of new tools.
Manage the architectural backlog, prioritizing improvements and technical evolutions.
Participate in meetings with stakeholders to understand business needs and communicate the technical vision of the data architecture.
Ensure alignment of technical documentation with the development team’s knowledge.
Promote collaboration between development teams, facilitating communication and knowledge exchange.
Assist in managing the team by providing direction, support, and guidance, and mentoring junior architects and team members.
Ensure the team possesses the necessary technical knowledge to address current challenges.
Collaborate with management to define and manage budgets for data initiatives, ensuring cost-effectiveness in technology selection and implementation.
