We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer to join our engineering team for a digital transformation project. You will play a key role in developing and implementing robust, scalable backend services for a modern portal. As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for building services, APIs, and integrations that support seven critical insurance lines while ensuring high performance, security, and compliance with industry regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain scalable backend services using Node.js and Express.js framework
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints for frontend and external integrations
- Build services architecture following best practices for distributed systems
- Develop secure authentication and authorization systems using OAuth 2.0 and JWT
- Create integration APIs for Microsoft Entra ID SSO and external partner systems
- Implement business logic for workflows, claims processing, and policy management
- Write comprehensive unit tests and integration tests ensuring 90%+ code coverage
- Follow security best practices including data encryption, PII masking, and audit logging
- Collaborate with frontend developers to design efficient API contracts and data models
- Participate in code reviews and maintain high code quality standards
Requirements:
- Experience with backend development with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience with Express.js, Fastify, or similar Node.js frameworks
- Proficient in RESTful API design and development with proper HTTP status codes and error handling
- Experience with PostgreSQL including complex queries
- Knowledge of authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML) and security best practices
- Proficient with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Mocha, or similar)
- Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with GraphQL and Apollo Server
- Experience with serverless architecture (AWS Lambda, Serverless Framework)
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration
- Experience with legacy system integration and data migration
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and project management tools
- Experience with multi-tenant application architecture
- Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) for migration projects
