Stage Carpentry
Touring Position - this position requires 100% travel

 
Primary Objective of Position

·         To assist the Head Carpenter in operation of the carpentry department, staff and local labor, including assembly of the grid and scenery.
·         To assist Head Carpenter and VSTAR Production Services (VPS) production shop staff with the assembly of carpentry elements during the production period and to maintain the quality of the elements throughout the tour.
·         Execute any fly system cues or carpentry duties that need to be done on stage during performances, under the supervision of the Head Carpenter and or the Production Stage Manager.  Also, must be prepared to operate from the fly rails and/or call follow backstage cues during performances, should the need arise.
·         Functions as a “hands on” tour Assistant Carpenter working with technical staff to provide maintenance and upkeep of the assigned event carpentry schedules.
 

Major Areas of Accountability

·         Responsible for assisting the Head Carpenter with: the supervision the local crews, load in, the construction of the grid trussing, assembly and rigging of scenic elements, arbor or counterweight loading, and maintenance of the scenic and physical plant elements.
·         Troubleshoot any technical problems encountered.  Inform Head Carpenter of any problems requiring shop assistance.
·         Work with Head Carpenter to create a cue sheet of all performance cues and changes during production. Continue to implement corrections, as directed, necessary to maintain and/ or improve the look of the show from both performance and crew standpoints.
·         Establish and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, clients and other company members.
·         Work with Head Carpenter during production to prepare the assigned show for touring.  These duties include accepting training for set-up of the scenic elements, rigging of all curtain tracks and flying elements, cueing all shifts for the scenic part of the event, marking & labeling of all items, standard refurbishment and creation of an accurate truck loading plan. Continue to work with the Head Carpenter staff throughout the tour to assess problems with show equipment and provide possible solutions.
·         All other duties as assigned.


Additional Performance Criteria

·         Ability to perform assigned duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision, recognizing when assistance is required.
·         Previous experience in a similar role is a plus.
·         Willingness to assist other departments on projects with short deadlines and/or peak workload.
·         Ability to develop and maintain a sufficient working knowledge of associated fields to effectively perform assigned responsibilities.
·         Adheres to and enforces all established guidelines and safety procedures outlined in the VSTAR Road Crew handbook.
·         Maintain a positive working relationship with all VSTAR employees.
·         Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
