Assistant Technical Director – Hawai'i – Resident Shows Division

This position is for a new creation that will be housed in the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki Hawai'i.  The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024.  Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.
 
We are currently looking for an Assistant Technical Director whose role will be to work in conjunction with the Technical Director to lead and manage the Show’s Technical Departments. The Assistant Technical Director’s main goal is to maintain safe and consistent show operations for all performances and day-to-day operations of the show, including daily training and staging while supporting the normal tasks and needs of the technical team, as well as nightly technical show call operations. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent communication skills who can build and develop the technical show teams.  
 
The Assistant Technical Director will:
-          Support the Technical Director in day-to-day operations; Oversee technical operations (sound, lighting, set, rigging, automation, projections, etc.);
-          Assist Technical Director with departmental budget, ordering and receiving of goods needed for operations;
-          Manage Departmental Leads and oversee weekly scheduling of all department crew;
-          Assist the Technical Director and Production Services in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly Life Safety and Show Critical;
-          Insure all maintenance and inspection records are kept in compliance with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group established policies and standards;
-          Work with technical management to establish and maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment;
-          Contribute to integrating, training and developing team members including being an instructor for Health and Safety courses;
-          Work closely with the Technical Director on all HR related issues to include Talent Dialogues, Coaching and Progressive Discipline;
-          Conduct staff performance reviews and assisting with hiring of new employees; 
-          With the Technical Director, coordinate special projects, including the research, purchase and installation of specialty technical related items both for show applications and for needs of the showroom and other stage departments as required; Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance and evening show performances; 
-          Ensure equipment and supplies are stocked in sufficient quantity to ensure the on-going needs of the production;
-          Address any work injuries that occur during the shift; 
-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-          At least five years of previous experience in a technical management position on large-scale theatrical productions, touring or special events;
-          Working knowledge of theatrical technologies;
-          Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time; 
-          Professional appearance and demeanor;
-          Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
-          Strong mechanical drafting skills, knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is an asset; 
-          Previous experience working with maintenance programs;
-          Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics
-          High School Diploma or equivalent;
-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
-          Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card;
-          Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
-          Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment like forklifts;
-          Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $96,000 USD/year.
This range is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided upon elements related, but not limited to: skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.

** Please note: This position is required to be on-site in Hawai’i. There will be no relocation assistance provided for this position.**
