Lead Automation Technician – Hawai’i – Resident Shows Division
Full-Time position
 
This position is for a new creation that will be housed in the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki Hawai’i.  The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024. Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.
 
We are looking for a Lead Automation Technician whose role will be to schedule crew, and install, maintain, operate automated show elements and systems in a safe and consistent manner for the show. Reporting to the Assistant Technical Director, the Lead Automation Technician’s job functions will include working as an automation console operator and assisting with strategies for a safe working environment at all times, as well as providing all other supporting services.
 
The Lead Automation Technician will:
-          Assist with departmental budget, ordering and receiving of goods needed for operations;
-          Manage employees and the weekly scheduling of all department crew;
-          Operate the automation control console and cue tracks in a safe and consistent manner for performances, artist training, and maintenance operations;
-          Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation, as directed;
-          Assist the Technical Director and Production Services in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections – particularly Life Safety and Show Critical;
-          Inspect and maintain electronic, hydraulic, motorized equipment and systems, and update maintenance and inspection records in compliance with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group established policies and standards;
-          Work with technical management to establish and maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment;
-          With the Technical Director, coordinate special projects, including the research, purchase and installation of specialty automation related items both for show applications and for needs of the showroom and other stage departments as required; Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance and evening show performances; 
-          Ensure equipment and supplies are stocked in sufficient quantity to ensure the on-going needs of the production;
-          Ensure Automation department documentation is current and formally recorded to preserve the original intention of the designers and utilize provided software tools to track all preventative and reactive maintenance routines, as well as any other information pertinent to the security of the show's run;
-          Observe safe wiring practices and maintain equipment in accordance with industry standards for safe operations;
-          Develop a thorough knowledge of Automation equipment specific to the production in order to operate it safely;
-          Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time; 
-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-          At least five years of previous experience operating and maintaining motion control systems and/or theater experience with high level large-scale productions;
-          Previous experience working with maintenance programs;
-          Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, including Ethernet communications;
-          Training in Electronics and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC);
-          Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
-          Strong mechanical drafting skills, knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks is an asset; 
-          Working knowledge of maintenance databases;
-          Strong metal fabrication skills such as cutting, grinding, fitting, aligning and welding; 
-          Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics
-          Working knowledge and experience with industrial machines, motors, gearboxes and related tools, including design, uses, repair, and maintenance; 
-          Working knowledge of AC\DC theory and electrical safety; 
-          Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment like forklifts;
-          Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor; 
-          Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts;
-          Professional appearance and demeanor;
-          Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;
-          High School Diploma or equivalent;
-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
-          Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card;
-          Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $40.38 USD/hour.
This rate is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary.
