We are looking for a Lead Shop Technician whose role will be to work with the Production Shop & Facilities Manager to lead the Shop team on all construction and builds for various projects, in accordance with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group (CDSEG) standards and policies. They will also need to have extensive knowledge in various construction methods and knowledge of wood working tool. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organization skills with strong attention to detail.
 

The Lead Shop Technician will have the opportunity to:

-          Lead the Shop team through various projects, provide training and development and manage projects to ensure they are on track for completion and instructions are clear;
-          Read construction drawings and verify that all projects are built to the drawings;
-          Plan and budget projects based on time and material;
-          Build, maintain, modify and repair Scenery and Props;
-          Critically analyze various problems to find solutions;
-          Work within the established budget to order and receive goods, ensuring equipment and supplies are stocked with a sufficient quantity to meet the on-going needs of the production;
-          Maintain a clean and organized Production Shop are; maintain tools and equipment as necessary;
-          Ensure all documentation is current and formally recorded. Train teams on proper documentation practices;
-          Stay up to date regarding safety and training requirements, as per the company and official regulating agency guidelines;
-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the shop; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
 

What does it take for this role? The following hard skills are the basics of what’s needed to be successful in this position:

-          At least three years of previous experience as a professional Stage Carpenter or other stage related craft working on large-scale productions or in a similar environment;
-          Previous leadership experience is an asset;
-          Previous experience running a Shop Sabre CNC, Plasma CNC or equivalent;
-          Experience with VCarve Pro and ENRoute;
-          Experience with 3D printing and its uses
-          In-depth knowledge of wide range of tools & materials as well as experience and proficiency in a variety of welding, woodworking and carpentry techniques;
-          Standard theatrical construction technique experience;
-          Knowledge of basic mechanics, electricity and electronics an asset;
-          Experience in finish carpentry;
-          Strong knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook;
-          Due to the unique nature of builds, prior construction of touring scenery is preferred;
-          Welding certification an asset;
-          Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card;
-          Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 75lbs unassisted, etc.; Operate mechanized equipment as necessary; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. -          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
-          High School Diploma and or GED;
-          Verification of the right to work in the United States for Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, as demonstrated by completion of the Form I-9 upon hire and the submission of acceptable documentation (as noted on the Form I-9) verifying one’s identity and work authorization.
