Automation/Rigging Maintenance Technician (Day shift) – Hawai’i – Resident Shows Division
Full-Time Position
 
This position is for a new creation that will be housed in the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki Hawai’i.  The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024.  Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.
 
We are looking for an Automation/Rigging Maintenance Technician whose role will be to support the automation and rigging systems to ensure show readiness and safety by performing maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment above and below the stage, developing a thorough knowledge of all automation, rigging and control systems, maintaining inventory of spare parts and supplies, and providing all other supporting services.  All duties are to be performed in accordance with department and property policies, practices, and procedures.
 
The Automation/Rigging Maintenance Technician will:
-          Ensure the safe setup, use and maintenance of Automation and Rigging equipment used by Artists during performances, rehearsals and training periods by completing inspections and maintenance in a timely manner; 
-          Update maintenance and inspection records within designated maintenance programs which could include Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as other show specific software such as AutoCAD in compliance with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group established policies and standards; 
-          Facilitate and participate in all system installations, commissioning and load testing in accordance with Cirque du Soleil policies and procedures; Work closely with Production Services to establish policies and documentation;
-          Operate the automation control console in a safe and consistent manner for performances, artist training, and maintenance operations. 
-          Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation as directed; 
-          Control machines and processes, by using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes; including work at height, swing stage and powered vehicles;
-          Develop a thorough knowledge of Automation and Rigging equipment specific to the production in order to operate it safely; 
-          Assist with inventory by identifying any additional Automation equipment that may be required and communicate with Lead when necessary; 
-          Participate in special projects including the installation of new show elements, and interdepartmental projects that include automated or rigging elements or other needs that may fall within the technician’s specialty as directed; Maintain a flexible schedule for work calls, special events, rehearsals, training, maintenance and evening show performances; 
-          Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-          Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-          Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;
-          Complete all other job-related duties as assigned. 
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-          At least two years of previous experience operating and maintaining motion control systems and/or acrobatic systems, including theater experience with large-scale productions; 
-          Strong metal fabrication skills such as cutting, grinding, fitting, aligning and welding; 
-          Strong mechanical drafting skills, knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks; 
-          Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics; 
-          Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging; basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset;
-          Working knowledge and experience with industrial machines, motors, gearboxes and related tools, including design, uses, repair, and maintenance; 
-          Working knowledge of AC\DC theory and electrical safety; 
-          Ability to work, climb and maneuver at heights;
-          Working knowledge of ANSI/ASSE Z359.1-2020, ANSI E1.43-2016;
-          Formal fall protection and overall safety training; Rope Access and High Angle Rescue is an asset;
-          Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor; 
-          Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays; 
-          Previous experience working with maintenance programs;
-          Ability to train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment;
-          Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook;
-          Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;
-          Fluent in English, both written and spoken;

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $36 USD/hour.
This rate is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary.
