Technical Director – Hawai’i – Resident Shows Division
Full-Time Position
 
This position is for a new creation that will be housed in the Outrigger Hotel in Waikiki Hawai’i. The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024. Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.

We are currently looking for a Technical Director whose role will be to lead and manage the Show’s Technical Departments. The Technical Director’s main goal is to maintain safe and consistent show operations for all performances and day-to-day operations of the show. The Technical Director is responsible, in conjunction with the Artistic staff, for the management of daily training and staging while supporting the normal tasks and needs of the technical team, as well as nightly technical show call operations. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with excellent communication skills who can build and develop the technical show teams.
 
The Technical Director will:
-                 Manage all technical activities and operations on a day-to-day basis in coordination with Resident Shows Division (RSD), Show Management, and Venue Facility Engineering; including theatre auxiliary shops and off-site spaces;
-                 Serve as the direct report for daily operational needs of all Department Managers; Manage the Technical team to ensure consistency of show call operations and quality, as defined by the Sr. Director of Production Services – RSD;
-                 Coordinate the crew schedules, show calls, vacations and department projects;
-                 Oversee on-going required training for the technical department, as directed by Cirque’s Talent, Health and Safety departments; Assist RSD Sr. Technical Director, as needed, to ensure crew schedule allows for compliancy training;
-                 Support the Sr. Director of Production Services – RSD and Department Managers in planning all local resources including labor and technical resources, as required, for the smooth install and operation of show content for outside events;
-                 Work closely with the Talent Business Partner on all HR related issues to include Talent Dialogues, Coaching and Progressive Discipline;
-                 Support the Production Services teams in maintaining documentation of all modifications made to the site and show equipment, including all capital improvements;
-                 Oversee and participate in the preventive maintenance and inspection program, as established by the Production Services Department – RSD and ensure compliancy on assigned show;
-                 Maintain on-site presence and management of crew to ensure scheduled performances are successful;
-                 Coordinate and oversee crew operations over all show specific dark periods, in conjunction with the Department Managers;
-                 Follow up on budget and reporting, in coordination with the Sr. Director of Production Services – RSD/Department Managers, including budget forecasting and expense approval prior to committing resources;
-                 Follow up on time keeping and reporting, including payroll verification for local crew, if needed;
-                 Follow up on scheduling building maintenance follow-up on issues to be corrected by Venue Facility Engineering;
-                 Support the hiring of the technical staff, in coordination with the specific Department Managers and with union affiliates, as applicable;
-                 Liaise with various partner property departments as necessary (HR, Entertainment Department etc.);
-                 Compile and send a nightly technical report to show’s leadership team;
-                 Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;
-                 Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;
-                 Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships, by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time;
-                 Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
-                 At least ten years of previous experience in a technical management position on large-scale theatrical productions, touring or special events; previous Touring experience an asset;
-                 Proven success and demonstrated ability in project management;
-                 Working knowledge of Microsoft applications for Windows; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Microsoft TEAMS;
-                 Thorough knowledge of theatrical technologies;
-                 Ability to obtain OSHA 30 course completion card;
-                 Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts;
-                 Professional appearance and demeanor;
-                 Fluent in English, both written and spoken; French is an asset;
-                 Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays; 
-                 Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer. Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $106,000 USD/year.
This range is location-specific and compensation in other geographies may vary. Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided upon elements related, but not limited to: skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.
