The General Manager of Enterprise Architecture (GMEA) is a strategic and collaborative leadership role, dedicated to guiding the enterprise architecture vision, strategy, and governance. This role ensures that technology platforms and solutions align with business goals, are scalable, secure, and support innovation and growth.

The ideal candidate will inspire and lead a high-performing team, fostering a positive and inclusive culture while building strong relationships with stakeholders. They will communicate complex technical concepts in an engaging and accessible way, empowering others to understand and embrace the architecture vision. Success in this role will be reflected in the alignment of strategies with business outcomes, increased reuse of technology components, reduced technical debt, and a supportive, motivated team environment.

Responsibilities:

    • Create and maintain clear, accessible documentation of current state architectures, ensuring understanding across the Enterprise Architecture team and senior technology leaders.
    • Actively identify and address gaps in the current architecture by collaborating with business and technology stakeholders, fostering a shared understanding of challenges and opportunities.
    • Work closely with stakeholders to co-create target state architectures that align with strategic objectives, fostering buy-in through inclusive and thoughtful communication.
    • Develop practical sequencing plans to transition towards the target architecture, engaging other Group Technology teams to ensure alignment and clarity on their roles.
    • Champion the technology vision by engaging business and technology stakeholders, making the benefits of target state architectures relatable and inspiring.
    • Develop a strategic resourcing plan that thoughtfully considers team capacity and skills, focusing on empowering team members to reach their full potential.
    • Cultivate a supportive and positive team culture by leading performance management processes with empathy and clear communication.
    • Encourage continuous professional growth and foster collaboration, creating a safe space where team members feel valued and motivated.
    • Set and track key performance indicators, celebrating successes and identifying areas for improvement while maintaining a balanced and people-centric approach.
    • Assist in managing cost centres and budgets, ensuring financial stewardship while maintaining a supportive work environment.
    • Prepare clear and timely management reports, providing updates on team progress, achievements, and ongoing initiatives.
    • Act as a reliable escalation point for challenges within your area, addressing issues promptly and collaboratively to maintain team well-being and project continuity.
    • Safeguard system integrity, security, and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with privacy and financial regulations.
    • Lead and support your team through regular check-ins, promoting accountability, collaboration, and professional growth while recognising individual contributions.
    • Encourage innovation and creative problem-solving, empowering the team to explore new ideas and maintain a forward-thinking approach.
    • Collaborate on strategies and policies, and recommend standards, tools, and methodologies that support inclusive and innovative practices.
    • Support the CPTO by providing thoughtful input, assistance, and leadership, fostering a culture of partnership and progress.

Requirements:

    • 10+ years of architecture experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role guiding enterprise-wide architecture strategies.
    • Proven ability to lead through change, especially in digital transformation, cloud adoption, and modernisation initiatives.
    • Experience in the financial services sector (wealth management, banking, insurance, or superannuation preferred), with a strong understanding of industry-specific challenges and opportunities.
    • Deep expertise across multiple architecture domains, including business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, and security, with a collaborative and inclusive approach.
    • Demonstrated ability to align technology strategies with business goals, communicating complex concepts in an engaging and accessible way to diverse audiences, including executives.
    • Extensive experience with architecture frameworks, using thoughtful judgement to select the most suitable framework for organisations of varying sizes and maturity.
    • Hands-on experience with modern architectural patterns (e.g., microservices, event-driven architectures, cloud-native architectures) and modelling tools.
    • Strong leadership skills, with a focus on empowering, coaching, and developing high-performing, diverse teams.
    • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, fostering positive collaboration across the organisation.
    • Experience working with hybrid cloud environments (GCP, AWS ecosystems), with a willingness to share knowledge and mentor team members.
    • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in financial services (e.g., ISO27001, GS007, ASAE 3402, CPS230, CPS234) is desirable.
    • MBA or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field is highly valued.
    • Familiarity with modern development technologies, including low-code platforms and generative AI, with a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
