Are you passionate about building products, managing people, and helping your team reach their full potential? We are hiring for Head of Engineering at Clearbit, a San Francisco based startup. This is a critical role. On day one you will have a team of six engineering leaders reporting to you, and an extended team of 24 engineers. You will be on our leadership team reporting directly to Clearbit’s CEO.
At Clearbit, we’re building the next generation of technology for B2B sales and marketing teams. Our data platform enables some of the fastest growing companies in the world to power their growth engines so that marketing emails, chatbots, slack alerts, sales outreach, website personalization and shortened forms all work together to drive incredible customer and revenue growth. In short, we provide the data backbone that thousands of companies are built upon.
Engineering is embedded in our company's DNA. We were founded by three engineers with a passion for building delightful products whilst ensuring we adhere to the best programming principles. We care a lot about code quality, testing, effective sprints, and product collaboration.
Management is also close to our heart; done well, it’s a thing of beauty. In fact, we believe it's one of the most overlooked levers of leverage in this world. We use Conscious Leadership, non-violent communication, and a host of other tools to try and provide world-class management.
We’re looking for a special individual who has a demonstrated ability to hire & manage engineers, and a passion for coaching them to reach their full potential. We are looking for someone who cares about shipping incredible products, and the process involved.

Key responsibilities:
- Empower and enable the engineering team to deliver outstanding results to our customers and build quality products
- Scope out well-defined career paths and growth opportunities for every engineer
- Work with stakeholders across the company (especially product) to ensure that engineering is aligned with company goals
- Source, recruit, and nurture world-class engineering talent
- Help shape and improve the product development process, representing engineering by communicating technical constraints, opportunities, and solutions
- Build and maintain a culture of excellence, mentorship, and collaboration; essentially be a world-class manager
- Provide coaching and leadership to the senior engineering management team as well as individual contributors

Reporting to you:
About you:
- You have 10+ years of professional software experience
- You have 5+ years managing mid-sized highly performing engineering teams
- You have shipped several customer-facing products
- You are passionate about delivering high-quality, efficient solutions to enable seamless user experiences
- You communicate clearly and have experience leading design reviews, code reviews, and pair programming
- You have a preference for fast-paced environments with tight feedback loops and continuous delivery
- You have experience working cross-functionally with design, QA and product.
