About Climate Power
Climate Power is a strategic communications organization focused on winning the politics of climate. We’re educating Americans about our climate progress, highlighting how clean energy investments benefit local communities, and holding Big Oil accountable for polluting our air and water. We use data-backed messages to pave a path for bold action and shine a light on the cost of ignoring the climate crisis on our health, economy, and future generations.
It’s our job to tell the story of how climate action and clean energy investment are rebuilding our economy, lowering energy costs, and protecting our planet for future generations. We call out disinformation from bad actors like the Big Oil lobby, and make the climate stakes real for voters.
About This Role
Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Deputy Managing Director for the States department to help lead Climate Power’s work in target states and House districts. The Deputy Managing Director will work with the Managing Director to develop and execute a strategic communications and earned media plan to drive a narrative around the importance of climate and clean energy investments, highlight the benefits of climate action in key communities to help hold opponents accountable, and block efforts to dismantle climate progress. This role will manage staff, relationships with other departments, and strategic communications programs and projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with the Managing Director and States department staff to develop and execute plans to achieve Climate Power’s goals in target states and districts.
- Help oversee Climate Power’s work in target states and districts, including strategic communications, earned and paid media, partner engagement, coalition management, and other programs and projects.
- Manage and support staff, including setting priorities, giving feedback, and coaching.
- Manage projects across the team and other departments (including creating and adapting communications materials, digital partnerships, paid media, research, and reporting) in a fast-moving, rapid response environment.
- Help develop and maintain an effective, “get things done” team culture rooted in mutual trust, transparency, kindness, and respect.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.
Essential Qualifications
- At least 8 years of experience, especially in (but not limited to) the issue advocacy, political campaign, government, and non-profit sectors.
- 5+ years of people and/or project management experience; demonstrated success in leading diverse teams and managing complex projects.
- Emotional intelligence, empathy, and willingness to assume good intentions and faith in others.
- Superb problem-solving skills, good judgment in navigating issues and making decisions, and a willingness to take initiative and find solutions.
- Collaborative leader and team player with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Sense of humor a plus!
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and adjacent technology.
If you do not meet all of the requirements and believe you are a good fit, we encourage you to apply but be sure to uplift all experience that aligns with both our essential and desired qualifications.
