Founded by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club, Climate Power integrates hard-hitting research, polling, state and national earned media, digital and paid media to influence the national conversation, embolden leaders to take immediate, bold climate action, and expose climate deniers and their oil and gas lobby allies. 

About This Role

Climate Power has an immediate opening for a Policy Advisor. The Policy Advisor will work with Climate Power Senior Leadership to translate federal climate and clean energy policy actions into a national narrative around the importance of climate and clean energy investments, to sell the benefits of climate action in key communities, and to block efforts to dismantle climate progress. 

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Build and execute strategies for outreach to and engagement with members of Congress, Senate and House staff,  and policy staff at federal agencies including DOE, EPA, USDA, and DOI. 
    • Work collaboratively across Climate Power to translate climate and clean energy policy actions into communications materials. 
    • Lead Climate Power’s engagement with policy-focused partners.  
    • Advise Senior Leadership on climate and clean energy-related policy-related issues as they pertain to research areas, strategic communications campaigns, and other projects of Climate Power. 
    • Develop communications materials including fact sheets, talking points, and more in partnership with political, states, communications, research, and paid media teams.
    • Represent Climate Power in meetings and events. 
    • Maintain regular and timely communications with Members of Congress, congressional staff, and agency policy staff and officials, sharing insights, messaging, and other Climate Power materials.
    • Manage consultants and likely one or two associates. 
    • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as need and capacity dictate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • 8 years of relevant prior work experience in public policy including demonstrated experience with advocacy organizations and political campaigns. Communications experience a plus.
    • 5 years of people and/or project management experience; demonstrated success in leading departments and diverse teams and managing complex projects.
    • Strong knowledge of clean energy and climate policy, and experience in translating policy into actionable strategic communications materials and campaigns.
    • Excellent writing and communications skills including the ability to translate detailed policy into digestible talking points or other content. 
    • A strong instinct for building and maintaining relationships with decision-makers combined with strong political judgment.
    • A solid understanding of the federal legislative process, and strong experience working with elected officials.
    • Excellent judgment in navigating complex issues and making difficult decisions.
    • Collaborative leader;  Must be able to work both collaboratively and independently
    • Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
    • Strong people skills and exceptional team player
    • Effective communicator—both written and oral 
    • Takes initiative, is creative and resourceful.
    • Ability to be a proactive self-starter, working independently to move work forward to successful completion;
    • Willingness to stay up to date on best practices and trends relative to the work and projects in their purview.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Workplace. 
$136,298 - $162,333 a year
Compensation is based on experience.
