Who are CloudNC?
CloudNC's mission is to make single-click manufacture a reality.

We build software that automates control of CNC machines - metal cutting robots that make >$1Trn of components every year, for anything from aircraft to iPhones to cars.

Worldwide over 100 million hours are spent painstakingly programming these incredible machines by hand every year, and we believe this is a colossal waste of human time and talent in an industry already facing an existential skills crisis. Our software, CAM Assist, brings one-click automation to CNC machining.

Our world-class team, with tier 1 financial backers including Atomico, Autodesk and Lockheed Martin, combines expertise in computer science and physical manufacturing, from our locations in London and Chelmsford.

We are scaling from Series B to C at pace and are fully funded for this growth.

Hours - 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm, alternating every 2 weeks.

Role Overview:
As a CNC Machinist, your primary responsibility is the setup, operation, and maintenance of our computer numeric controlled (CNC) machines. You'll ensure the production of quality parts and tools according to engineering drawings and client standards.
If you're a skilled CNC Machinist looking for a challenging role where you can contribute to producing high-quality components, we invite you to join our team.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

    • Set up and operate CNC Machining/Turning centers and Cutting Tools to meet customer requirements.
    • Support production engineers and machinists by setting up new tools and establishing datum reference points.
    • Ensure machinery setup is safe and ready to handle assigned tasks.
    • Address tool breakages and interpret kinematics during production runs.
    • Safely load and unload raw materials into CNC machines.
    • Identify process improvements and implement adjustments to speed, tool paths, and other factors.
    • Perform work according to company operating standards and procedures.
    • Regularly inspect machines for mechanical and safety issues.
    • Conduct preventative maintenance on machines, equipment, and tools.
    • Monitor machine output and verify product acceptability.
    • Maintain records of machine operations and report any non-conforming products.
    • Escalate issues with NC tool paths to CAM programmers or line managers.
    • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
    • Perform manual finishing of machined components.
    • Support packaging of machined components for dispatch.
    • Adhere to quality standards and customer specifications using gauges and manual measuring instruments.
    • Troubleshoot production problems to ensure adherence to quality standards.

Education / Qualifications / Training:

    • Apprentice trained in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
    • In-depth knowledge and experience in operating CNC machines, preferably for metal component production.
    • Understanding of CNC machining strategies, particularly milling/turning, including speed, tool paths, and other factors.
    • Practical knowledge of measuring tools, equipment, and concepts.
    • Solid understanding of machining parameters and ability to diagnose and rectify production issues.
    • Experience in setting up and operating CNC machines, including installing workpieces, fixtures, and cutting tools.
    • Ability to select and install appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures for machining processes.
