Director, Experience Design

co:collective is a creative and strategic transformation partner for purpose-led businesses. We’re led by our deep belief that today's most successful organizations must have an underlying purpose, one that is so central to their identity it influences everything they do, from how they show up in the world to how they organize internally.

At co: we help our clients define that purpose and then help them enact it in a variety of ways across the customer experience -- brand identity, products (digital and physical), services, experiences and content -- to transform who they are, how they act, and how they show up in the world.

We strive to be embedded in our clients’ businesses. We do not wait for our clients to come to us with problems or challenges to turn into creative briefs. We are constantly working with clients to identify challenges and opportunities - and working with them to take action.

The co: community is deeply committed to continuing to build a diverse and inclusive workplace for all to thrive. We value and honor those with different backgrounds, unique perspectives, and believe that inclusive organizations build better teams and produce better work. We are a people-centered business that creates safe spaces, leads by example, and seeks to make a positive impact on the world.

The role
We are looking for a creative leader to help build our Experience Design Practice at co: collective. In this role you will work with all leads across disciplines but will specifically partner with the MD, Experience, the Director of Experience Strategy and the Head of Production.

Who you are
You are a swiss army knife, with a track record of excellent work in both human-centered design and graphic design. You are entrepreneurially minded, innately curious and culturally attuned.

You are a student of the direction that the worlds of technology, community, design (human-centered and graphic), business and brand are headed.

You are passionate about, and have experience in, building relationships and teams internally and building relationships of trust with clients.

What you'll do
- Work with the founders of co: collective, as well as the MD, a strong strategy leader, and a strong production leader to build a vibrant XD practice -- one that produces design work that is famously effective and sometimes just plain famous.
- Work with the other members of the team to make the above a profitable business (over time).
- Work with that group, as well as the Head of Talent, on a daily basis to define the total team needs (full-time and freelance) on an ongoing basis.
- Be a great communicator and motivator, inspiring clients and internal teams to be impatient for greatness. Help the wider co: organization to create a strong culture of learning by making.
- Balance your time between leading others and hands on making as we get the practice fully up and running.

What you've done
- 10+ years of experience building and leading both design and design thinking teams.
- A wide range of experience across digital and real world experiences.
- A strong network of connections across the creative making industry, including graphic design, systems design, digital product design, UX, UI design and industrial design and potentially content.
- Build strong relationships with clients, interrogated their asks and provided sound creative and business recommendations.
- Identified new business opportunities with both new and existing clients, and won them.
- Dreamed of a better way of doing all this stuff… because there HAS to be one out there somewhere!

What else?
With great work, comes great reward. We are a community of brilliant, ambitious, creative people committed to creating an ever evolving progressive work environment. In addition to a salary commensurate with your experience, our perks include unlimited vacation, performance-based bonuses, a dog friendly environment, and of course, free snacks.

Future of Work
co:collective has adopted a hybrid working model. Our office is open and accessible for those who wish to use the space and collaborate in person, but there are no mandatory set days in the office.

We have put the power in the hands of our project teams, asking them to assess what key in-person client and internal meetings are necessary for the health of the project and our people.

You do not need to live in NYC to work at co:. All we ask is that you are comfortable coming to New York a few times a year for select in person moments.

Our office is located at 419 Park Avenue South, 5th Floor, New York NY 10016
