The Finance Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, managing cash flow, supporting job costing, and maintaining compliance with industry-specific financial regulations. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to ownership and working closely with project managers, estimators, and external auditors.   The Finance Director will play a key strategic role by providing data-driven decision making as an enabler to company growth objectives.

Responsibilities

    • Financial Management & Reporting
    • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes
    • Prepare financial statements and management reports
    • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
    • Monitor and manage cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policies

    • Job Costing & Project Accounting
    • Maintain accurate job cost tracking for all construction projects while collaborating with project managers to analyze and improve project profitability
    • Receive and review monthly PM report by 5th of each month
    • Review and reconcile WIP schedules and percent-complete revenue recognition
    • Assist with bid pricing and post-project financial analysis
    • Ensure invoices are verified
    • Work with Project Managers to ensure Pay App are processed on 15th of each month
    • Weekly budget review each Thursday afternoon with Project Managers

    • Leadership & Oversight
    • Manage and mentor accounting staff (including future hires) to support scalable financial structure
    • Coordinate annual audits and tax preparation with external CPA firm
    • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with labor regulations
    • Implement internal controls and process improvements
    • Ensure payments processed for sub-contractors and other vendors
    • Collaborate with owner’s accounting and project teams to resolve outstanding accounts receivable swiftly

    • Maintain and optimize accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor)
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filings
    • Maintain vendor and subcontractor compliance, including W-9s
    • Administer lien waivers, pay apps, and retainage tracking

    • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Month-End Close Timeline: Complete within 7 business days
    • Accuracy of Job Costing Reports: ≥98% accuracy
    • Cash Flow Forecasting Accuracy: ≤5% variance from actuals
    • Audit & Tax Filing Timeliness: 100% compliance with deadlines
    • AP & AR Aging: No more than 5% past due over 60 days
    • Internal Control Compliance: Zero material findings in audits

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
    • CPA designation preferred but not required
    • Minimum of 10 years accounting experience, with 5+ years in construction or project-based accounting
    • Prior experience as a Finance Director or Controller preferred
    • Proficient with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor)
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and WIP reporting
    • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
    • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
    • Detail-oriented with a problem-solving mindset
    • Knowledgeable of compliance regulations in Davis-Bacon and TERO
    • Competency in local Bonding requirements
$95,000 - $115,000 a year
