The Product team is the team responsible for developing Cognite Data Fusion as a robust and scalable platform for solving industrial data problems at Cognite. The industrial data problem is at the heart of transforming asset-intensive industries to be safer, more sustainable and more profitable. Cognite’s Cognite Data Fusion makes the operational data available at scale and adds value to the data through data processing. This enables asset-intensive industries to make data-driven decisions. Our platform is built on many different technologies, each good at solving various challenges.
To build the best possible product, we believe in autonomous teams with developers, designers and product managers working closely together. Our teams are working on building the next-generation industrial data platform and applications across many different industries, such as Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and Power & Utility. This includes enabling all types of workflows, including analytics, to assist in making better decisions. We are a good mix of engineers, products, and design. What we have in common is that we care deeply about the user experience and create products that users really want to use.

Our Stack and Your Canvas
Our backend developer teams work with Kotlin, Java, and Python. CI/CD is handled by combining Github, Jenkins, and Spinnaker to test and deploy code to production. The infrastructure is managed as code with Terraform and Atlantis, and services are monitored using Prometheus, Grafana, and Lightstep.
So now we are looking for two new Senior Backend Engineers to join our team.
We work with open-source technologies that need to run in multiple cloud environments – both public clouds (Google Cloud Platform, Azure, and AWS) and private clouds with customer-provided Kubernetes.
Managed Kubernetes (GKE, AKS, EKS, Openshift) forms the base on which we build our products. We harness PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch for graph data storage, query processing and retrieval. We replicate data to different storage systems to be able to answer different types of queries.
A typical day as a Cogniter will contain the following tasks & responsibilities
- Develop Cognite Data Fusion - a robust, state-of-the-art SaaS for industrial data.
- Solve concrete industrial data problems by designing and implementing delightful APIs and robust services with Python, Kotlin and PostgreSQL.
- Build graph database technology to power our industrial knowledge graph, realizing Cognite’s vision of a safer and more efficient industrial future.
- Work with application teams to ensure a delightful user experience that helps the user solve complex real-world problems that have yet to be solved before.
- Build scalable and performant solutions with open-source technology and Cognite’s data infrastructure.
- Collaborate in a fast-paced environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts.
- Be actively involved in setting product and technical direction.
- Be actively involved in product and technical decisions.
We believe most of these should match you and your experience
- Solid experience with building complex backend services using Python and/or JVM-based languages and runtimes
- Good understanding of modern database technologies, particularly PostgreSQL
- Passion for graph processing, databases, performance engineering, or distributed systems
- Broad experience with DevOps practices such as CI/CD and Infrastructure as code
- Experience with large Cloud deployments on any of AWS, GCP, or Azure; build, test, deploy, and monitor software in a multi-cloud Kubernetes environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to track down information in logs, traces, and metrics and take appropriate action based on findings
- Solid understanding of monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
- Comfortable working with Open Source community - request features, fix issues
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
