Why this role?

This team is responsible for building the infrastructure and compute platform, which acts as the foundation for all members of technical staff at Cohere. Being self-directed, with an eagerness to identify key problems and an adaptability to varied work, is essential. 

As this team matures, the ability to focus on stability, making the platform observable and scalability becomes paramount. Having enthusiasm for learning with a willingness to tackle challenges head-on is critical for this role. 

The team's focus on building world-class infrastructure is critical to all of Cohere’s success. 

Please Note: All of our infrastructure roles require participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation, where you are compensated for your on-call schedule. We have offices in Toronto, New York, San Francisco, and London. We embrace a remote-friendly environment, and as part of this approach, we strategically distribute teams based on interests, expertise, and time zones to promote collaboration and flexibility.
For this role, we are targeting candidates who live in EMEA.

In order to be successful in the role, you have:

    • 5+ years of engineering experience running production infrastructure at a large scale 
    • Experience designing large, highly available distributed systems with Kubernetes, and GPU workloads on those clusters
    • Experience working with GCP, Azure, AWS and/or OCI 
    • Experience in designing, deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting in complex Linux-based computing environments
    • Excellent collaboration and troubleshooting skills to build mission-critical systems, and ensure smooth operations and efficient teamwork
    • The grit and adaptability to solve complex technical challenges that evolve day to day

Bonus qualifications:

    • You worked with or supported MLEs or data scientists
    • Familiarity troubleshooting RDMA networking
