Job description

As Head of Product, you will lead Coil’s product development strategy, develop and own the long-term product roadmap, and oversee the continued development of Coil’s current products. This role reports directly to the CEO and will collaborate with engineers, designers, marketing, and other stakeholders to take products from ideation to launch. As the organization grows, you will build and lead Coil’s product team.

What you'll do

    • Collaborate with fellow members of the leadership team on product vision and strategy
    • Synthesize product ideas and technologies into products our customers will love
    • Create, manage, and deliver a rolling quarterly product roadmap while obtaining buy-in from various stakeholders and ensuring alignment with Coil’s strategy and mission
    • Inspire, mentor, and recruit the nascent product team
    • Gain a deep understanding of our users by performing qualitative interviews and surveys, help identify and resolve customer pain points, and use insights to develop a well-grounded product strategy
    • Work with Design, Engineering, and other stakeholders to translate product ideas into clearly defined product requirements, user stories, and user experiences
    • Determine what projects we should work on, why they are important, and how they should function and be prioritized

What you bring to the table

    • 5+ years of experience leading and building the product function at startups
    • Exceptional communication skills via all communication channels
    • You leverage async channels to collaborate effectively in a remote work environment 
    • Experience aligning product vision with customer feedback to prioritize development and to track success
    • Experience building and managing product roadmaps, planning sprints, and making trade-offs to effectively ship products
    • The ability to reduce scope of products to small shippable features which can be executed to iteratively move our product forward 
    • Strong understanding of the world of digital media, app monetization strategies, and micropayments / in-app purchases
    • Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
    • Strong collaborative, consultative, and organizational skills
    • An ownership mindset–you care about seeing features through from start to finish


    • Experience with open source software
    • Experience interfacing with external partners
    • Content and media experience
    • Experience building products for creators 

Coil has offices in San Francisco and Cape Town and remote employees and contractors in the US and abroad. This full-time role is located in our San Francisco headquarters, but can be done remotely from anywhere in North America provided that your availability includes Coil’s core business hours of 9 am to 3 pm PT.
