We are looking for an engineering director to lead our high-performing Tools, Infrastructure, and Developer Efficiency (aka TIDE) team. TIDE maintains our production environments, develops Color’s cloud infrastructure, and owns our build and deploy pipelines. In this role you will partner closely across the engineering org to enhance our production availability, infrastructure efficiency, and developer productivity.


How You'll Contribute:

    • Ensure production uptime and availability to meet the needs of customers, patients, and partners.
    • Keep cloud infrastructure up-to-date and efficient.
    • Listen to software engineers in order to provide them with robust foundations for test, build, deployment, observability, and maintenance.
    • Collaborate with engineering peers to navigate a dynamic environment, ensuring your team is focused on high priority, high leverage work.
    • Lead Developer Experience initiatives to evangelize TIDE initiatives and coordinate dependencies.
    • Deeply understand the development and deployment environments and the impact of tools and processes on developer productivity.
    • Drive engineering best practices across your team and the wider engineering organization to achieve a high level of agility, and technical and product quality.
    • Collaborate with other engineering leaders on compliance initiatives, cost tracking, and core metrics.
    • Plan and execute a roadmap that prioritizes high-impact improvements, leveraging data to measure progress and demonstrate value..
    • Run regular team ceremonies, prioritizing and coordinating, for combined group of TIDE and Security.
    • Manage, support, coach and mentor the engineers on your team and actively engage in their professional growth.
    • Oversee / participate in on-call rotation.
    • Manage vendor relationships for dev tools.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

    • 10+ years in engineering, including 5 years in management
    • Demonstrated influence / communication / diplomacy to drive change
    • Strong technical comprehension and prioritization skills
    • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity
    • Experience with some or all of our tech stack

Our Tech Stack:

    • Software: Python, Django, some Flask, Celery, React
    • Build and CI: GitHub, CircleCI
    • Observability: Datadog, Honeycomb
    • Cloud: AWS
    • Platform: Kubernetes, Karpenter, Terraform

Possible Projects to Contribute to:

    • Transform the deployment process - fast builds and deployments
    • Establish strategy for observability and nurture a culture of identifying and monitoring the most important signals
    • Help teams define SLOs for customer-facing services and build observability and incident response processes for the team to meet them
    • Enable a new engineer to ship code on their first day


Base Salary Range: $190,000 - $250,000 per year

The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: work experience, market data, skills, geographic location, and business need. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
