The mission of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is to work collaboratively toward the prevention of homelessness and the creation of lasting solutions for homeless and at-risk families, children, and individuals throughout Colorado. The Coalition advocates for and provides a continuum of housing and a variety of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of those it serves.

The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless seeks an experienced nonprofit and financial leader as Chief Financial Officer of one of our nation’s most effective providers of housing, healthcare and supportive services for unhoused individuals, families, and those at risk of homelessness.
The areas of focus of the CFO position are:
· Serves on the Coalition’s Executive Team, as a key advisor to the President & CEO, Board and staff, and as a passionate ambassador of the Coalition’s mission.
· Develops effective financial strategies and identifies opportunities to maximize organizational impact that supports the mission of the Coalition.
· Provides effective stewardship of the Coalition’s resources through operational excellence and efficiency.
· Leading and managing the Finance Department with approximately 35 staff positions and functional responsibility for budget, accounting, audit, payroll, investments and banking, revenue cycle, grant and property accounting, and financial reporting.
· Advising the CEO, Executive Team, and Board on strategies related to organizational financial health, risk management and financial forecasting important to the Coalition and its mission.
With a staff of 800+ and an annual budget of about $120M, CCH annually provides housing to more than 4,400 individuals or households in 23 properties with around 2,000 owned and managed apartment homes as well as additional transitional and recuperative care beds. The Coalition has five integrated health clinics and mobile and street health units which served 14,700+ patients last year.
CCH is headquartered in Denver while operating throughout Colorado. Due to its large affordable and supportive housing portfolio, CCH has a number of subsidiaries, housing corporations, and partnerships that are involved in the financing and holding of affordable housing.
Since our founding more than 40 years ago, the organization has earned state and national recognition for its integrated healthcare, housing and service programs. The Coalition’s comprehensive approach addresses the causes of homelessness, as well as the consequences, offering critical assistance to more than 20,000 individuals and families each year.
Essential Job Functions
- Assists the President & CEO and Executive Team in the development of short-term and long-range goals, objectives and strategies of CCH and its related entities. Implements action plans to fulfill operations-related goals, objectives, and strategies.
- Monitors and assesses organizational performance against both the annual budget and organization’s long-term strategy.
- Develops tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President & CEO and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations. Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting to the Executive Team and Board.
- Engages the Board Finance Committee with financial reports and on issues, trends, and changes in the financial environment, revenue and expenses. Supports financial reporting, budget and audit review to the Board.
- Ensures financial planning for the Coalition’s assets and liabilities, meeting financial compliance, and selecting and engaging outside consultants (i.e. auditors, investment advisors).
- Oversees long-term and annual budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with organization’s strategic plan.
- Oversees the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function; manage senior finance staff and lead and support Finance Department.
- Ensures maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.
- Ensures timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and company nonprofit’s board of directors; oversees the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements.
- Coordinates audits and proper filing of tax returns with external auditing firm.
- Ensures legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
- Oversees the revenue cycle team to ensure maximum reimbursements for clinical services from third party payers (Medicaid and Medicare) and compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
- Monitors compliance with debt covenants, lender relations, and project financing.
- Provides financial information and support to Executive Team, administration and program directors to facilitate their financial accountability for their areas or programs.
- Coordinates with CCH Property Management Department staff to ensure financial accountability for each property and our housing portfolio.
- Performs all other duties, projects and activities as assigned by the President & CEO.
Qualifications Summary
- Advanced understanding of financial systems, accounting and reporting. Demonstrated management of financial functions.
- Organizational and administrative skills necessary to ensure smooth operational support of programs and services.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with highly diverse stakeholder groups and individuals in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work and communicate across departments and on behalf of organizational interests in a variety of contexts whether written, one-on-one or large gatherings.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills. Able to lead teambuilding and provide active team support.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and change while proactively driving our mission forward.
- Ability to apply strategic thinking, systems analysis, and understanding of complexity to all aspects of the work.
- Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field of study related to finance, accounting, economics or related field. CPA or advanced degree welcomed.
- Minimum experience of 10 years in organizational finance plus a minimum of 7 years managing financial functions.
- Experience with a health care or housing development or non-profit organization setting preferred.
Education and Experience
$191,500 - $260,000 a year
