JOB SUMMARY
The Thermal Spray Technician (Level I) is a position in the field of thermal spray application.  Thermal Spray is a process used to apply a wide array of materials using manual spray techniques and computer programmed applications (CNC) to metal. The department specializes in depositing various materials (melted or heated) onto turbine engine components for the purpose of dimensional restoration using thermal spray equipment.

This position will work alongside experienced thermal spray technicians that will allow continuous interaction for acquiring the techniques, knowledge, and skills of the job. You will become familiar with various types of processes, equipment, and learn about safety and quality standards while developing your thermal spray technique all under the supervision of a professional team of technicians. As your skills increase, so will your responsibilities, giving you hands-on experience, growth, and additional responsibilities.

The position performs its primary functions in a climate-controlled and modern state-of-the-art facility.  Through our extensive in-house training program, the successful applicant will be instructed via a series of computer based and hands-on training, the necessary skills of the position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Through our extensive in-house training program, (OJT) the successful applicant will be instructed via a series of computer based and hands-on training, the necessary skills of the position.
1.      Interpret and follow work instructions and shop drawings to ensure the proper thermal spray process is applied to the correct part features.
2.      Inspect and prepare parts for thermal spray coatings, including cleaning, masking, blasting, and any other processes that may be required.
3.      Set up and operate thermal spray equipment in accordance with work instructions.
4.      Select and apply specified coatings.
5.      Handle all coatings in accordance with established safety, quality, stock control and security policies.
6.      Apply coating either manual or via computer-controlled processes. (CNC)
7.      Remove masking after coating and prepare parts as necessary for the next process.
8.      Maintain equipment as required, including performing daily checks and completing logbooks or other records when required.
9.      Frequently perform process tests for quality control.
10.  Use handheld gauges to measure parts during the coating process to ensure correct amount of coating is applied.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. A minimum of six months to one year of experience in the thermal spray process.
2. Able to use measuring devices such as scales, micrometers and dial indicators, go/no-go gauges etc.
3.      Experience in reading shop drawings and work instructions and the documentation of work performed.
4.      Previous experience in the operation of overhead cranes.
5.      General experience using files and other hand tools to remove sharp edges from metal surfaces.
 
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
1.      High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
2.      Familiar with or able to learn basic shop math.
3.      Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
4.      Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
5.      Must be able to use hand tools and have good hand eye coordination.
6.      Ability to work independently and have the knowledge to perform the job with minimum supervision.
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work in varying positions from time to time. Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift. Move parts (>50 pounds) using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods. Move less heavy parts (<50 pounds) with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
2.      This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing (including respirator fit test) and a vision exam.
3.      Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions.  The following may or may not be required.
a.      Ear plugs.
b.      Safety glasses.
c.       Uniform.
d.      TyVek jumpsuits.
e.      Respirators. 
4.      Exposure to dust and heat.
5.      Use powered and hand-held tools frequently.
