We are seeking an energetic hands-on finance and accounting professional with strong financial planning & analysis skills, audit, financial forecasting and technical skills to help advance our mission around the globe. 
 
The Director of Finance will be responsible for strategic financial planning and analysis, audit & internal controls, forecasting and overseeing day-to-day finance/accounting process including assisting field finance teams. Experience in non-profit accounting $30M+ budget. She/he will manage the financial reporting, compliance, manage general accounting functions with heavy emphasis on revenue recognition, grant administration and donor/funder A/R collections. In addition, cross collaborate with procurement, disbursement and payroll departments. The candidate will have experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs, revenue streams and multi-currency.  

Responsibilities:

    • Audit & Internal Controls:  
    • Responsible for coordinating annual audit activities including tracking open items on audit checklist, prepare audit schedules and managing the relationship with external auditor.  
    • Responsible for supporting various donor related audits in coordination with field programs. 
    • Responsible for preparing the annual 990 and coordinate other annual compliance and registration requirements. 
    • Ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures, including all local, state, federal, financial reporting and regulatory requirements.  
    • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures. 
    • Able to research and document technical accounting issues, develop or edit existing written business processes and policies.  

    • Strategic Financial Planning and Analysis: 
    • Develop multi-year financial models and scenario planning tools aligned to strategic goals and roadmap. 
    • Provide insights and recommendations that make strategic decisions, revenue generation, cost efficiencies, and sustainable strategies. 
    • Serve as a thought partner to leaders across the organization, translating complex financial data into actionable strategy. 

    • Budgeting & Forecasting: 
    • Contribute to the annual budget planning process in collaboration with department leads, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with strategic priorities. 
    • Responsible for monthly forecasting processes, monitoring progress against budget and adjusting plans based on evolving needs. 

    • Financial Reporting & Communication: 
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, with commentary on trends, performance, cash flow and key drivers. 
    • Develop dashboards and visualizations that make financial data accessible to internal stakeholders. 
    • Communicate financial insights clearly to non-financial audiences to support informed decision-making 

    • Grant Management & Accounting:  
    • Demonstrate a good track record in grants management as it relates to donor compliance and reporting for government, corporate and foundation grants. 
    • Manage the NICRA and provisional fringe accounting process and reconciliations, allowable and unallowable costs. 
    • Manage the gift-in-kind revenue and expense accounting including GIK valuation and documentation. 

    • General Ledger & Systems:  
    • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate US GAAP and 2 CFR part 200 standards and regulatory requirements, experience with IFRS standards a plus. 
    • Advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software, specifically Sage Intacct  
    • Responsible for all (including field teams) aspects of the monthly and annual close cycles  

    • Team Leadership:  
    • Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, will assist with 2-3 direct reports 
    • Mentor and develop team members to further build the overall capacity and skillsets of the accounting and finance teams. 
    • Create, promote and facilitate a collaborative, supportive, positive, respectful and transparent work environment. 
    • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization. 

    • Communications:  
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management or other outside partners  
    • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.  

Qualifications:

    • Must have over 7 yrs experience managing non-profit accounting including GIK, donated services, SOA, balance sheet and full grant life cycle.  
    • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and 2 CFR part 200 regulations. 
    • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to our mission  
    • A proactive, analytical, hands-on strategic thinker  
    • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA and/or CPA   
    • Strong demonstrated and advanced excel skills  
    • Experience with Sage Intacct or other ERP platform and Salesforce 
$160,000 - $170,000 a year
In accordance with law, the expected pay range for this position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
