The objective of this internship is to learn about and obtain hands-on experience in non-profit disaster response. This internship focuses on supporting CORE’s humanitarian efforts in response to the January 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles. Throughout this internship, the intern will be introduced to standard emergency response principles, activities, and experience the functions of CORE Headquarters and Disaster Response teams. The intern will reinforce skills in community engagement, emergency response program support and coordination, and independent and team-oriented work.
Responsibilities:
- Assist CORE’s Los Angeles wildfire response Disaster Team Lead and attend meetings, help with research and writing proposals.
- Support various response and recovery activities including Resource Navigation and the Hub, Smoke Remediation, and Cash and Voucher Assistance. Supporting these activities includes hands-on operations assistance, administrative information management and external engagement with community members and beneficiaries.
- Support emergency assistance data mapping, analysis of services, and identification of gaps
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the programs and operations of nonprofit disaster response.
- Training on Cash& Voucher Assistance Fundamentals, Disaster Response Communication Ethics, Emergency Response Team Self-Care and Emergency Response Team Trauma Informed Responses.
- Additionaltraining includes Humanitarian Best Practices Series, report writing and Relief Compass operations.
- Develop internal and external communication and project management skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Gain experience using tools like Salesforce, Slack, ArcGIS, and Google Workspace.
Deliverables:
- Final presentation on internship experience and outcomes.
Timeline and Hours
- 12 weeks, part-time (24 hours/week).
- Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday
- Weekly check-ins with supervisor
- Midpoint touch base at Week 6.
- Final presentation in the last week.
- In-person internship at CORE HQ
$18.50 - $18.50 an hour
In accordance with CA law, the expected pay range for this CA position is posted with this position. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
