You are a backend engineer who would help build out the Cortico platform. Your role will be focused on core infrastructure, from devops through data pipelines and APIs. Typical day-to-day activities will include: evaluating and deploying new and emerging data-management technologies, coding at all levels of the data stack, and integrating the latest advances in machine-learning-based data analysis as developed by MIT Media Lab researchers. You will have access to the Media Lab to learn the latest methods home brewed at the lab.
Python is our go-to language because it offers good support for core use-cases of applied machine learning, API development, data pipelines, and devops tooling. We use elasticsearch for search and for text analytics, and evaluate other data-management technologies (Hadoop/Hive, Spark, PrestoDB) for inclusion in the platform as our requirements evolve. We appreciate AWS’s power and flexibility, if not all its warts, so we use AWS services extensively. Familiarity with all of these technologies is not required, but interest and willingness to learn certainly is.
