Institutional Product Owner Position:

COS is seeking a Product Owner to join its Product team. Reporting to the Director of Product, the Product Owner plays an essential role in COS’s product development and ability to meet its mission. The Product Owner is responsible for supporting COS’s product vision through effective and efficient management of product development activities and building and maintaining strong relationships with our institutional partners. 

Each of COS’s Product Owners are generalists on as well as specialists in a specific product, in this case OSF Institutions. With support from the broader Product team, the Institutional Product Owner fields support and product inquiries, identifies leads, stewards customer success and renewals, and maintains a portfolio of institutional partners.


    • Represents the product vision based on organizational goals, institutional stakeholder needs and user feedback both internally with product development, policy and research teams and externally with institutional partners, stakeholders and researchers
    • Builds strong relationships with institutional partners and is able to bring in new partners through value-based demonstration of the product
    • Establishes strong understanding of the institutional product andthe use cases the product is expected to meet. Collaborates bidirectionally with individual researchers and institutional stakeholders to understand and share future ideas for the product
    • Manages user support inquiries for the institutional product area with good communication of responses leading to resolution of user challenges. Leveraging support inquiries to better manage the product documentation, user experience and future enhancement development
    • Maintains and updates all user-facing product documentation for institutional product area, ensuring cohesion with established style, tone and information architecture
    • Able to collaborate with the product team to develop a stewardship strategy for institutional relationships through clear understanding from engagements with institutional stakeholders on needs and challenges to successful product adoption
    • Collaborates with the Communication Coordinator on institutional partner outreach for sharing new features and improvements to user base, use cases, examples and other training materials for librarians and for offering webinars and other events to have continued relations
    • Is knowledgeable in agile scrum product development and is able to jump right into the product management processes and ceremonies

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
    • Experience with institutional partnerships, such as universities, colleges, or academic societies; experience with software development or sales, a plus
    • 3-5 years experience in a similar role
    • Experience with scrum agile development methodologies
    • Ability to travel up to 30%

401(k) with employer match. COS offers a matching contribution of 100% up to 3% of pay and another 50% up to 5% of pay (the full match will be 4% if participants elect to defer 5%)

Salary is expected to be between upper 60k to 80k depending on relevant experience and skills
