The Impact of a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering at Coupa:
As a Sr. Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing development team within our fast-growing Treasury product area—part of Coupa Pay. Treasury plays a critical role in enabling customers to manage cash availability across banks, accounts, and currencies, ensuring timely payments and financial foresight.You will work closely with product management to help solve real-world financial challenges while ensuring technical scalability and engineering excellence. This is a high-impact leadership role with broad collaboration across teams, allowing you to help shape Coupa’s platform strategy and grow engineering capabilities.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers working on core Treasury solutions within Coupa Pay
- Guide the team in building maintainable, extensible, and high-performing software that scales across our global customer base
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Support, Cloud Ops, etc.) to balance rapid delivery with quality and technical debt reduction
- Provide hands-on leadership during problem-solving sessions, articulating business impact and guiding technical discussions
- Drive process improvements, technical innovation, and architecture evolution across the team and broader engineering org
- Define and track key metrics for feature delivery, code quality, and team productivity
- Support engineers’ growth by developing tailored career plans, providing feedback, and assigning aligned projects
- Partner with Recruiting for sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding new talent
- Participate in roadmap discussions and contribute to technical and strategic decision-making
- Foster a culture of continuous feedback, collaboration, and accountability
What You Will Bring to Coupa:
- 5+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, with a background as a hands-on developer
- 8+ years of experience in web application/platform development and architecture
- Strong engineering fundamentals with prior experience building enterprise applications using the .NET stack or related technologies
- Deep understanding of SDLC best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, and agile development
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, set priorities, and drive delivery in a fast-paced environment
- Experience reviewing architecture/design and providing technical guidance to high-performing teams
- Track record of managing business and technical metrics and using them to drive decisions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Passion for mentoring, coaching, and helping engineers grow
- Experience in hiring and team building, including onboarding and career development
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, especially Scrum
- Ability to quickly gain product domain knowledge and translate functional requirements into technical deliverables
