The Avant Organics, Process Technician is primarily responsible for the safe startup, shutdown, and efficient operation of the process equipment. The Process Technician will become the subject matter expert on the process and associated equipment, learning techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. The Process Technician is expected to collaborate with team members and proactively assist with inventory, receiving and outbound shipping, storage of materials, as well as assist in the R & D Laboratory.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Monitor the Tank Farm production operations, ensuring specifications are met.
    • Operate pumping systems or equipment.
    • Operate biomass or biofuel production equipment.
    • Record operational or production data.
    • Evaluate quality of materials or products.
    • Collect samples of materials or products for testing.
    • Prepare biological feedstock for physical, chemical, or biological processing.
    • Notify others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
    • Inspect sustainable energy production facilities or equipment.
    • Measure stock or liquid levels in sustainable fuel production systems.
    • Measure ingredients or substances to be used in production processes.
    • Load materials into production equipment.
    • Calculate specific material, equipment, or labor requirements for production.
    • Clean work areas.
    • Maintain sustainable energy production equipment.
    • Adjust equipment controls to regulate flow of water, cleaning solutions, or other liquids.
    • Replace worn equipment components.
    • Collaborate regularly with team members and proactively assist other departments/functions. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES for WAREHOUSE (20%)

    • Coordinate deliveries incoming raw materials. Ensure the proper storage and disposal of biological and chemical waste. Ensure incoming goods and materials are appropriately logged. Assign lot numbers for all incoming chemicals. Maintain organized shelves and materials always kept in assigned locations. Assist with inventory of raw materials and ordering.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES for R&D LABRATORY (10%)

    • Assist with daily testing of raw materials, finished products and in process samples (as needed) and reporting results. Assist with quarantining of materials not within specifications and reporting results. Assist with recording and documenting quality data. Assist with reporting any malfunctioning equipment. Assist with calibration of test equipment and record keeping. Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment. Receive hazardous and non-hazardous packages. Restock and maintain laboratory consumable and reagent inventory.

QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED)

    • Mechanically Inclined, knowledgeable of machines and tools.
    • High degree of organizational skills to be able to document processes and results.
    • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Ability to work in a team-driven environment with a collaborative and proactive attitude.
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Ability to perform physical job duties.
    • Ability to work in varied conditions with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Basic computer skills.

QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)

    • Few months to one year of related work experience.
    • Laboratory experience.
    • Warehouse, Shipping and Receiving experience.
    • Post-secondary certificate in agriculture or natural resources, precision production or another related area.
    • College degree (i.e., math, biology, chemistry).
