The Director of Construction oversees all aspects of construction, safety and quality for all active projects through the supervision of the Manager of Construction Management, Quality Manager, and Safety Manager.  Works with Vice President to set strategic direction, plans in support of company strategic goals, and develops metrics to ensure objectives are achieved.  This position will need to develop and interpret policies as required, develop and monitor key indicators for project success, provide guidance of team’s development, project growth, and manage department overhead.  Perform additional duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops the strategic plan for the department to align with Beta overall strategy.  Sets department short-term and long-term goals and guides planning process to ensure successful execution of strategy and attainment of goals.
Establishes and evaluates department performance objectives through process analysis and improvements to maximize team productivity. 
Promotes and ingrains Beta culture and brand with department.
Builds collaborative teams and fosters the engagement of the remote teams to the office teams.
Ensures department is organized/structured to successfully meet the needs of projects with execution excellence.
Establishes staffing needs to meet active and future project requirements.  Ensures the development of the team is paramount to assessing potential, evaluating future talent needs, and building leadership within the teams.
Establishes the department training and certification needs.
Manages the department overhead (salaries, training, equipment replacement, etc.).
Assesses safety oversight on all construction projects. Ensure that department is trained in and implementing Beta's Safety Program and OSHA regulations.  Support department with safety issues and perform audits to ensure compliance.
Assesses quality oversight on all construction projects. Ensure that department is trained in and implementing Beta's Quality Assurance Program, support with quality issues and perform audits to ensure compliance.
Assesses construction oversight on all construction projects.  Review construction reports to monitor construction progress on all projects.  Review Beta and subcontractor construction schedules to ensure projects are on schedule and meeting target dates.  
Provides support to either project manager or construction manager to address site specific construction issues and bring resolution by either increased site presence or remote support from the office.
Assist project manager and construction manager in final project inspections and development of subcontractor punch lists.  Assist department with close-out of project, final work items, energizing requirements and demobilization.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Directly supervises Manager of Construction Management, Quality Manager and Safety Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Crest's and Beta's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training construction managers; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Participates in all leadership meetings and leads across the company.  
Participates in review meetings with project team to discuss design and constructability issues and develop ideas to improve progress and quality on future projects.
Additional duties as assigned by the Vice President or President.

EXPECTATIONS:
Performs quality work within deadlines without direct supervision. Interacts professionally with other employees, customers and project team members. 
Works independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees, teams, subcontractors and organizations.
Communicates regularly with supervisor and project management teams about construction issues.
Beta Engineering’s representative on the construction site.  Must display an attitude and attributes that positively reflects Beta’s values.
Use of company vehicle is a requirement for the position.  The Director must have a clean driving record to operate company vehicles.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Ten or more years of high voltage substation construction related experience, fifteen or more years of related construction experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in construction management with additional five years high voltage experience.  Must be knowledgeable of general civil, structural, mechanical and electrical industries 
Must have extensive knowledge of OSHA construction regulations with accreditation from OSHA Education Center.
Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Project
