The CAD Administrator works as part of the DIS-TRAN Packaged Substation’s Engineering and Design Team. The CAD Administrator is a detail oriented and organized individual knowledgeable in Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault. This role supports our Engineering and Design Teams by ensuring efficient access to controlled CAD library models, helping manage Vault Lifecycle States for model and drawing files, and working with the Systems Group to help improve and implement automation solutions for data management standards.
This energetic, self-motivated professional demonstrates the ability to read and understand layout and detail drawings and technical documents. The CAD Administrator must work well in a team environment yet have the ability to complete a high volume of work with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, organize, and maintain a library of CAD models, templates, and standard details.
- Ensure CAD assets follow company and industry standards for drafting and documentation.
- Work with designers and engineers to update and expand the CAD library as needed.
- Maintain file naming conventions and metadata for efficient retrieval and data management.
- Provide support for file conversions, compatibility, and revision control of CAD files.
- Monitor and implement CAD standards and best practices.
- Assist with onboarding and training of staff on proper use of the CAD library and templates.
- Perform periodic audits of files to identify and eliminate duplicates or outdated items.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
- Is proficient using Autodesk Inventor and Vault Software, including working with model states, user defined coordinate systems, Vault categories, and Vault lifecycles.
- Has moderate knowledge of substation equipment.
- Has moderate knowledge of electrical industry codes and substation design standards.
- Has moderate knowledge of substation design principles and how to apply them (clearances, ampacity, corona, effects of altitude, detailing principles, etc.).
- Has moderate ability to create 3-D models for substation equipment and steel structures.
- Has moderate ability to create accurate, comprehendible construction drawings and plan views (General Arrangements, Shop Fabrication Drawings, Anchor Bolt Plans & Details, Foundation Plans & Details, Lighting Plans, Static Protection Plans, Below Grade Grounding Plans and Details and accurate bolt counts & tube cutting schedules).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
- Associate’s degree or certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience using Inventor and Vault in a professional environment.
- Familiarity with architectural, mechanical, or electrical drafting standards (depending on industry).
- Strong understanding of data management and data integrity.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and ability to collaborate across departments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (PREFERRED):
- Experience with ERP systems is a plus, especially Epicor.
- Experience with computer programming is a plus, especially using the VB.NET language.
