The Business Development Manager (BDM) is an experienced technical sales professional with a proven track record of selling complex EPC solutions. The BDM is responsible for growing Beta's customer base and increasing brand awareness within the high-voltage industry. The BDM is responsible for relationship development, execution of sales, sales strategy development and implementation, business planning, and interface with proposals, marketing, and project management of the company. The BDM will ensure generation of new business through prospecting, research, data management, and completion of customer qualification processes.  This position will be accountable for the achievement of new sales targets, as well as maintaining and growing current customer relationships. The BDM will solicit customer’s pre-qualifications and Request for Proposals (RFPs).  The BDM assumes overall responsibility for and oversees all aspects of business development and research, including budget support, customer pre-qualification, responsiveness to RFPs, follow up on budget proposals and active projects, and brand awareness for customers in the assigned territory. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -
- Supports the Director of Business Development and EVP of Business Development in all business development and sales activities, including determining overall marketing and sales strategy.
- Supports the development of strategic planning, implementation, and integration for the business development group. 
- Effectively manages customer relationships.  Maintains the highest integrity, negotiates effectively, and has strong interpersonal skills.
- Supports the development of high-level relationships with targeted industry accounts and orchestrates available resources to effectively manage relationships.   
- Defines and implements business development objectives to support the business strategy.
- Identifies all stakeholders and manages their expectations and concerns.
- Holds internal and external stakeholders accountable to drive and track results.
- Proactively researches and prioritizes potential customers. 
- Applies knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance Beta's goals. Interprets and applies understanding of key financial indicators to make business decisions. 
- Attends meetings and tradeshow exhibitions to maintain and expand Beta's industry network and expertise.
- Supports the development of the business development budget and resource allocation, including the management of expenses. 
- Provides leadership and coaching for team members, focusing on growth, development, and knowledge transfer. 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 
- Communicates the customer’s expectation for the request for proposal to the Director of Proposals and ensures fluid communication throughout the processing of the RFP. 
- Provides feedback from potential/existing customers to internal team to improve relationships and competitive proposals. 
- Understands how the functions of other departments contribute to organizational goals and how the market and other outside trends also impact organizational goals. 
- Identifies prospective customers by using industry databases and business directories, following leads, and attending tradeshows and conferences.
- Oversees the management and maintenance of all new/existing customer relationship management and market intelligence databases. 
- Maintains contact with new and existing customers to identify upcoming proposals and deliver a detailed account strategy. 
- Tracks and responds to proposal inquiries.
- Schedules follow up calls and meetings with customer after proposals are submitted and provides feedback to the Director of Proposals and stakeholders.
- Delivers presentations of the company and capabilities at conferences, customer sites, and exhibitions. 
- Identifies potential subcontractors that align with Beta Principles for competitively bidding projects and passes along contact information to the Director of Proposals. 
-Reviews technical and commercial offers with Director of Proposals; including price, schedule, costs, scope, and clarifications/ deviations. 
- Supports effective internal communication within the business development, marketing, and proposal group, as well as throughout the company as a whole. 
- Attends weekly Business Development meetings and other monthly/quarterly meetings.  
- Possesses a fundamental understanding of our services, people, processes, capabilities, and limitations in order to effectively communicate this information to potential customers for approval processes. 
- Conducts strategic research in support of Beta's designated market sectors and explores new growth markets and customers; conducts industry research and competitive analysis to evaluate potential opportunities to better align Beta to market needs. 
- Partners with the marketing team to advance the brand.
- Additional responsibilities as requested by the Director of Business Development or President.

- Knowledge of and ability to setup teleconference calls for hosting meetings. 
- Must be able to work with confidential information to ensure the security of this information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited vocational or academic institution in the field of Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering or Technology, or a related field, plus 5-10 years of business development or sales management, experience is required. 
- Five years of successful business development, sales, and market research experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree. 
- Strong familiarity with business development, project management, and market research practices, methods and techniques is required. 
- Exceptional communication skills are required, including written, verbal, and presentation skills. 
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM) experience is required; experience using Unanet CRM QuickBase is preferred. 
- Must be self-motivated, flexible, and able to work with minimal supervision. 
- Capable of overnight travel for 50-75% of schedule (which may result in extended periods of travel). 
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point and Adobe Acrobat is required. 
- Knowledge of high-voltage substations and transmission lines is required. 
- Knowledge of scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera 6 or equivalent is preferred.
- Must have clean driving record as use of company vehicles is a requirement of position.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  
- Will work in an office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, and other environmental hazards. 
- Exposed to office equipment with moving parts and cutting blades which require caution in their use. 
- Overnight travel is required to attend Customer locations and trade shows.  Ability to perform duties safely and to adhere to each Customer’s safety requirements. 
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion. 
- Use of company vehicle.
