As the Head of Stores for Birch Lane, A Wayfair Specialty Brand, you'll be a proactive business leader, setting ambitious goals and ensuring accountability across the team. Thriving on achieving business results, you'll drive our success by providing consistent and effective leadership to all retail stores and spearheading new store openings to expand our brick and mortar. Working closely with store teams, you'll ignite sales growth, optimize profitability, and execute strategic retail initiatives. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Stores, you'll also cultivate a vibrant community and customer culture within our stores.

    • Strategic Leadership: Challenge and guide the team to innovate and adopt a forward-thinking approach to propel the business forward.
    • Financial Management: Oversee retail P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, inventory management, and operational efficiency.
    • Performance Metrics: Establish clear KPIs and expectations for retail operations, providing the necessary tools and leadership to achieve ambitious goals, while prioritizing a relentless customer experience.
    • Strategic Planning and Execution: Responsible for all aspects of new store openings including strategic planning, staffing, training, and store opening to ensure successful launches within budget and on schedule.
    • Talent Management: Recruit, train, and develop staff, ensuring effective performance management and adherence to company policies.
    • Customer Focus Strategy: Maintain a customer-centric approach, ensuring that all store activities align with enhancing the overall customer experience while driving sales and fostering loyalty through a comprehensive range of store programs, including clientele initiatives, in-store, and in-home design services.
    • Training and Development: Innovate and build training tools to cultivate management teams that effectively train, motivate, and challenge store teams to achieve financial goals, proactively resolve issues, and elevate performance and customer service.
    • Effective Communication: Maintain transparent and direct communication channels, recognizing the importance of giving and receiving feedback at all levels.
    • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a key stakeholder, collaborating with business partners across various departments including Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources.
    • Diversity and Inclusion: Champion inclusivity and diversity initiatives, nurturing a strong talent pipeline through succession planning and growth opportunities.

What you bring to the role

    • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams remotely, with a focus on influencing and inspiring others.
    • Financial Acumen: Proven track record of driving top-line sales and improving bottom-line profitability.
    • Communication: Clear and concise communication skills with customers, team members, and leadership.
    • Time Management: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a strong sense of urgency and multitasking capabilities.
    • Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Forms, SharePoint), with experience in sales reporting and common POS transaction software functionality. Familiarity with Google Suite is a plus.

    • Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in senior leadership roles within a multi-unit/region retail environment.
    • Partnership Building: Ability to develop and strengthen partnerships, both internally and externally.
    • Flexibility: Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. and traveling frequently to stores.
