Project Overview/Background

    • Study how a vulnerability is discovered for network devices and how the related exploit is crafted, leading to compromising of the network device. Demonstration of understanding is required.
    • Implement a detection tool for a specified vulnerability/exploit.

Scope & Deliverables

    • Research at least 1 vulnerability/exploit.
    • Develop a simple detection tool to check if the network device is vulnerable and whether exploitation is taking place.
    • Present research findings and demonstration of the detection tool.

Prerequisites/Skills Required

    • Proficient in programming and scripting languages
    • Proficient in using Linux Platforms
    • Basic understanding of Operating Systems concept
    • Basic understanding of vulnerability discovery and exploitation
    • Past experience with firewalls or other network devices will be an advantage
    • Comfortable in troubleshooting / debugging software
