At Curai, we have two machine learning teams, the ML Research team focusing on the medium to long term research and the ML Applications team focusing on continuous improvement of the automation technology, including research that leads to product impact. We have a vibrant environment of collaboration between the teams. 

We are looking for an applied ML intern hosted on our research team while working closely with the ML Applications team. We support applied ML interns by pairing them with both an ML researcher mentor and an ML engineering mentor. In this role, the intern will (1) extend an existing research project and (2) build the engineering service for deployment. Thus, the intern gets the taste of both modeling and ML engineering work. Our mission drives team members, and we play a vital role in influencing our company's technical/ML direction for hybrid ML-practitioner primary care.

What You’ll Do: A day in the life as a Curai Applied ML Intern is spent doing things like:

    • Extending an existing research project and implement components and services necessary for the production deployment of the model on AWS.  
    • Implementing components for automated retraining and validation pipelines to continuously improve and validate the model.
    • Developing task-specific UI components to enable the data-labeling team to efficiently label data for the automated retraining and validation pipelines. 
    • Gaining hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure tools like AWS and workflow orchestration tools like Dagster and Github Action.

What You'll Need:

    • Senior undergrad or graduate students who have an introduction to machine learning.
    • Proficient in Python and in model development frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
    • Prior experience in an industry internship is valued.
    • Exposure to applications of ML/NLP in healthcare is valued but not required.
    • Prior experience in developing front-end applications, especially for data labeling, is valued but not required.
