Deep Sky is at the forefront of combating climate change through innovative carbon removal technologies. We are embarking on an ambitious project, Deep Sky Labs, our pilot and demonstration facility designed to test the most promising direct air capture technologies for scale up, located in Innisfail, Alberta. To achieve this milestone, we are seeking an experienced Site Engineering Lead to lead the operations and maintenance of this state-of-the-art facility.

As Site Engineering Lead, Deep Sky Labs you will play a vital operating role in operating and managing our state-of-the-art direct air capture facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong track-record in operating and managing large-scale demonstration plants in the industrial sector, such as chemical processes, with a passion for environmental sustainability and technological innovation.

This role is based in Innisfail, Alberta.

In this role you will work closely with the VP, Site Operations to:

    • Lead the setup and operational management of the pilot facility, ensuring all systems function within set parameters.
    • Hire, train, and manage a team of operators and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
    • Oversee the implementation of health and safety protocols throughout the facility.
    • Coordinate and manage the execution of 10 direct air capture pilot tests, including scheduling, resource allocation, and data analysis.
    • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize DAC processes. 
    • Maintain compliance with all governmental regulations and environmental guidelines.

An ideal candidate has:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental or similar. Advanced degrees and professional engineering designation (P.Eng) preferred. 
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operational management within a technical or industrial setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
    • Proven experience in managing pilot plants or industrial operations, preferably in the environmental technology or chemical processing industries.
    • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize complex processes.
    • Commitment to upholding high safety and environmental standards.
