Demetrix is a start up in the San Francisco Bay area that is making nature’s medicines in a smart and responsible way. We are seeking an Associate Scientist/Senior Associate Scientist to assist the Strain Engineering team. The individual in this role will be part of an interdisciplinary team of molecular biologists, fermentation scientists and engineers, automation engineers, software engineers, and analytical chemists working to rapidly develop microbial strains to produce natural product medicines. 

Your Impact

    • Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, plasmid miniprep, DNA assembly, bacterial and yeast transformation, genotyping by colony PCR, and setup of assays. 
    • Document experimental results and maintain accuracy of database entries for DNA and strains.
    • Be an advocate for and adhere to all laboratory safety protocols
    • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture

Your Experience

    • BS with 1-4 years’ industrial experience in molecular biology and/or strain engineering
    • Experience working with yeast a plus
    • Detail oriented and proactive
    • Independent and able to effectively manage time
    • Positive and enthusiastic team member. Effective communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Currently, we’re building a product pipeline of cannabinoids, the active compounds in the cannabis plant. Humans have been relying on cannabinoids for health and medicinal purposes for centuries.
Although there are more than 113 unique cannabinoids, very few have been studied. That’s because they are present in such low quantities in the plant. We can produce even the rarest cannabinoids at high purity and volumes. What this will do is enable research for health benefits and, ultimately, provide affordable access to the compounds.
