The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Compliance Counsel to join our In-House Legal Team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a pivotal role in guiding legal and business strategies, managing risk, negotiating exciting commercial deals, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations around the globe. Responsibilities
- You will own end-to-end compliance legal strategy for Deputy’s product; monitor and track changes to labor and employment laws across U.S, Australia and UK as they impact our software; and partner cross-functionally to ensure compliance by design in software development, as well as timely software updates and customer communications to align with regulatory change;
- Partner cross-functionally with teams around the globe to deliver on company and legal team strategies and objectives;
- Draft, review and negotiate SaaS and other commercial agreements with customers, suppliers, and ecosystem partners, including subscription agreements, professional services agreements, data processing agreements, NDAs, and much more;
- Create and deliver compelling compliance training programs to teams throughout the organisation;
- Draft and implement best in class policies and procedures for compliance with rapidly developing laws;
- Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide proactive legal and business guidance;
- Manage external legal resources when necessary and ensure cost-effective legal support;
- Conduct legal research and analysis as needed to support business decisions; and
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and active member in good standing of at least one state bar association;
- Minimum of 4 years of legal experience with a reputable law firm or in-house legal team, preferably at a SaaS company;
- Strong familiarity with U.S. wage and hour laws;
- Experience negotiating business transactions with a preference for candidates with experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating SaaS agreements;
- Commercial awareness and understanding of balanced risk approaches in a SaaS high growth context;
- Excellent business acumen and people skills with a strong background in commercial law and the demonstrated ability to advise stakeholders on business and legal issues, and advocate on the company’s behalf;
- Alignment with Deputy’s Mission, Vision, and Values;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to advise and present to stakeholders at all levels of the business;
- A ‘business partner’ mindset with demonstrated collaborative and solutions-oriented behaviors to enable compliant business outcomes;
- Intellectual curiosity to continuously learn, upskill and adapt in a fast paced and dynamic environment;
- SaaS, technology, and/or workforce management software experience a plus;
- Ability to work independently;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Excellent academic credentials; and
- Outstanding references.
$161,820 - $173,910 a year
The salary range for this position takes into account multiple factors that are all considered to determine an individual candidate’s starting pay. These factors include but are not limited to: market factors, experience, technical and non-technical skills, education, certifications, and other business acumen. This range does not include any potential incentive programs, such as individual or organizational performance bonuses.
