Assembly Engineer - Greencastle, Indiana

Disher is currently partnering with an automotive manufacturing company in their search for an Assembly Engineer. In this role you will work on the development of new designs, products, and innovative processes as this company works to secure their future. This key member of our team will focus both on early involvement with the product design/development function to influence design characteristics for improved manufacturability, efficiency and reliability, as well as maintaining and improving existing manufacturing processes.

What you'll get to do:

    • Develop assembly concepts, writing scope of work documents, designing, testing, and deploying tooling and automation.
    • Work closely with external suppliers and manufacturers, supporting the development, fabrication and build of prototypes, pilot production and deployment of high-volume factory automation.
    • Ability to bring the product design and product component together in an assembly process being it a manual or automated process understanding how the incoming processes effect the overall assembly process.
    • Develop and document assembly processes, spare parts lists, and preventative maintenance plan.
    • Prepare equipment and systems specifications.
    • Work with a team to formulate the process step cycle times, efficiencies, yields and step relationships to include dynamic modeling as required for process and line balance assumptions. (Arrangement, Rates, Balance, Yield, Capacity)
    • Define the process steps and sequence of operations, material handling and process control needs and to the extent possible, the preliminary process layout.
    • Work with team on Product/Process Flows, PFMEAs, Quality Control Plans, and risk assessment activities.
    • Work with team to define critical product/process parameters relating to product documentation nominals and tolerances and they are related to process functions.
    • Evaluate Safety and Occupational health summary for process.
    • Provide cost and operational criteria via internal and external resources for the justification and acquisition of major tooling. (ROI)
    • Propose and implement cost reduction activities for mature assembly processes.

    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical product drawings, interpret technical procedures, write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
    • Ability to solve practical and technical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Proficient with solid modeling tools, (AutoCAD)
    • Experience with automation, PLCs, Machine Vision and electrical controls
    • Project Management Experience
    • Experience with spreadsheet software (Excel) & presentation software (PowerPoint)
    • Ability to communicate with technical & non-technical associates
    • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
    • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work in a team environment
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Ability to provide technical design and process information relating to product manufacturability, process and design costs, process risk assessment and product capability assessment.
    • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot equipment and determine root causes for assembly issues.
