About DMC
DMC is a biotechnology company based in Boulder, CO, and Research Triangle Park, NC. Our Dynamic Metabolic Control™ technology platform delivers robust and predictably scalable biocatalysts resulting in cost competitive and sustainable processes for everyday chemicals. We are a multi-product bio-based chemical company, working ingeniously to reduce the cost and the environmental impact of biochemicals for markets in animal feed, human nutrition, pharmaceutical materials, and chemical intermediates.

We are seeking a scientist to join our Metabolic Engineering team. The scientist will join a dedicated team responsible for the design, engineering, and validation of strain performance at bench scale. The candidate will lead the design and construction of pathways and strains, and the high throughput screening of production strains. Ideal candidates will possess prior experience in metabolic engineering, molecular biology, synthetic biology, and laboratory automation. Moreover, they should be able to understand the underlying metabolic mechanism, and quickly learn new concepts that are specific to support our technology and approach.

Responsibilities
Design of metabolic pathways to redirect carbon fluxes to the desired metabolites
Optimization and utilization of laboratory automation for the construction of plasmids and genetically engineered microbial strains, including E. coli
High throughput screening of production strains
Data driven hypothesis generation and testing
Manage and track project progress and proactively update progress to the stakeholders
Managing and coordinating complex experimental schedules within a broader team
Maintaining, analyzing, and reporting data to the larger team
Troubleshooting and improving processes
Maintaining safe practices and work environment
Mentoring and coaching more junior team members

Qualifications
We prefer candidates with technical training in molecular biology or chemical engineering, and prior experience in a laboratory setting. Demonstrated experience with metabolic engineering, laboratory automation, statistical analyses, Design of Experiments (DoE), fast-paced work environment, and analysis of large data sets preferred. In addition, we prefer candidates with experience in the following areas:
PhD. degree in bioengineering, molecular biology, or related field with 2+ years related experience, or alternatively a B.S. degree with 7+ years related experience
Direct, hands-on experience with microbial engineering
Direct, hands-on experience with laboratory automation (liquid handlers)
Direct experience in statistical analyses and Design of Experiments (DoE)
Quantitative, data-driven analysis of experimental results and an analytical mind-set
Experience in following, drafting, and revising detailed SOPs and protocols
Capability to manage multiple work-flows and experiments within a single day
Ability to effectively work in cross-disciplinary teams
Must be a self-starter, motivated, scientifically curious, and collaborative

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We're actively taking steps to make sure our culture is inclusive and that our processes and practices promote equity for all, including people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We welcome and encourage applications from people with these identities or members of other historically marginalized groups.

Research shows that women and people of color tend not to apply to jobs unless they believe they are 100% qualified and apply to fewer senior-level positions. With that in mind, we encourage you to apply if you're not sure whether you meet our qualifications. We'd love to have the opportunity to consider you.
