About DMC
DMC is a biotechnology company based in Boulder, CO, and Research Triangle Park, NC. Our Dynamic Metabolic Control™ technology platform delivers robust and predictably scalable biocatalysts resulting in cost competitive and sustainable processes for everyday chemicals. We are a multi-product bio-based chemical company, working ingeniously to reduce the cost and the environmental impact of biochemicals for markets in animal feed, human nutrition, pharmaceutical materials, and chemical intermediates.

We are seeking a Fermentation Scientist to support the commercialization of bio-based processes.  The Scientist will join a small, dedicated team responsible for demonstrating strain and process performance at bench scale, along with supporting technology transfer of strains and processes into and out of the team. Successful candidates will have prior experience in microbial fermentation, will be able to quickly learn new concepts that are specific to our technology and approach, and will be an exceptional team player.

Responsibilities
Rigorous quality control of fermentation experiments
Experimental planning across multiple projects and timelines
High level result reporting
Managing and coordinating complex experimental schedules within a broader team
Maintaining, analyzing, and reporting on results to the larger team, including external stakeholders
Troubleshooting and process development/improvement
Maintaining safe practices and work environment
Train new/junior team members as needed

We prefer candidates with technical training in chemical engineering. Demonstrated experience in statistical analyses, Design of Experiments (DoE), and manipulation of large data sets required.  In addition, we prefer candidates with experience in the following areas:

MS/PhD in chemical engineering or related engineering discipline with 1-5 years related experience Or BS in chemical engineering or related engineering discipline with 5-10 years of related experience
Exceptional understanding of key chemical engineering principles that impact fermentation bioprocesses (e.g. mass transfer)
Direct, hands-on experience with bench scale and pilot scale microbial fermentation
Direct, hands-on experience with aseptic technique and bench scale bioprocessing
Direct experience in statistical analyses and Design of Experiments (DoE)
Quantitative, data-driven analysis of experimental results and an analytical mind-set
Familiarity with Python or similar programming language preferred
Experience in drafting and revising detailed SOPs and protocols
Electronic lab notebook (ELN) experience preferred (LabGuru)

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We're actively taking steps to make sure our culture is inclusive and that our processes and practices promote equity for all, including people of color, people from working-class backgrounds, women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We welcome and encourage applications from people with these identities or members of other historically marginalized groups.

Research shows that women and people of color tend not to apply to jobs unless they believe they are 100% qualified and apply to fewer senior-level positions. With that in mind, we encourage you to apply if you're not sure whether you meet our qualifications. We'd love to have the opportunity to consider you.
