It’s first-to-market, innovative products include rapid tests for the detection of antibodies to HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) on the OraQuick® platform; sample self-collection and stabilization products for molecular applications; and oral fluid laboratory tests for detecting various drugs of abuse. 

Overview 
DNA Genotek products are marketed worldwide and support thousands of customers as they achieve breakthroughs in genomic and microbiome research, in diagnostics laboratories, in the pharmaceutical industry, in companion animal genomics and in personalized medicine.  

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, You will be the primary legal resource for our molecular collections and services business, comprised of our DNA Genotek (Canada), Diversigen (US) and Novosanis (Belgium) affiliates.

We are a legal department that seeks to build strong relationships across the company and to understand the challenges faced by the groups we support.

Please note, this is a fully remote position and can be based out of either the US or Canada.

Snapshot of Responsibilities

    • Commercial – negotiate and review all contracts for our molecular business, including purchase agreements, distribution agreements, consulting and non-disclosure agreements, services agreements, material transfer agreements, licenses.
    • Employment - serve as primary lawyer for Canadian HR and employment matters and manage local employment counsel for our affiliates. Assist in the review and update of employee handbook and key HR policies. Support the preparation of employment, repayment, severance, and other employment related documents.
    • Intellectual Property - support intellectual property strategy and work closely with R&D teams to assess and manage company intellectual property.
    • M&A - assist General Counsel on business development matters as needed, including due diligence, contract drafting and transaction closing.
    • Compliance - support legal compliance function, including administration of the Code of Conduct, anti-kickback policy, and other policies.
    • Training - provide training to relevant functional areas to ensure broad understanding and adherence to legal risk parameters, contract terms and policies.
    • Department Efficiency - help drive efficiency by supporting the implementation of contact management tools and coordinate with General Counsel on management and development of contract templates.
    • Litigation - assist the General Counsel as needed with respect to handling and supervision of outside counsel for litigation matters.

What You Bring

    • Member of the Bar in good standing
    • Law degree from an accredited law school in the US or Canada
    • 8-10 years of post-call experience in house or with a top-tier law firm
    • Comfort with commercial, corporate, employment and transactional matters
    • Understanding of US and Canadian law; other international expertise is a plus
    • Experience in the healthcare industry is a plus
The base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000 to $234,000 CAD. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base salary for the position, based on our defined salary pay ranges. Our ranges are broad to account for differences in roles, performance, experience, skillsets, education and business needs and individual pay is determined by a variety of factors. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package, as noted below.
