The Media Monitor is a critical member of the DNC's communications team. The Media Monitor follows all forms of media to track news events each day and monitor breaking news in real time to assist the rapid response and press teams, including through drafting press materials and memos.

Responsibilities:

    • Work in coordination with the communications team to craft and execute the DNC’s rapid response strategy and surrogate communications operation;
    • Identify opportunities to accomplish the DNC’s message goals by following news events, tracking surrogate interviews, and monitoring breaking news throughout the day on a variety of sources, including online/print sources, social media, and cable news;
    • Assist with the distribution and quality of written materials, from drafting to delivery;
    • Complete assignments on identifying media trends and coverage;
    • Carry out special projects and message events;
    • Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.

Reqirements:

    • Applicants should have an exceptional eye for detail, solid command of writing, an understanding of AP style, a strong ability to multitask, and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to manage multiple projects at once;
    • An ability and desire to keep up with the news cycle;
    • Proven interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships with staff members at all levels;
    • Commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness;
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills across multiple media; and
    • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and a positive attitude.

The starting salary for the Media Monitor position is $51,000 on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, which means you will be eligible for overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a given workweek, and has an end date of November 15, 2024. This position is in the bargaining unit represented by SEIU Local-500.
