The Deputy States Communications Director works hand-in-hand with the States Communications Director to manage the everyday work of the States Communications Team and supports the work of the Regional Press Secretaries. The Deputy States Communications Director maintains close contact with Democratic state parties as well as regional and local media.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with managing and planning state party communications, including materials for major media rollouts;
- Aiding in the management and hiring of the states team;
- Coordinating department-wide press materials for multi-state initiatives;
- Pitching creative ideas for localizing national messaging;
- Liaising with surrogates, stakeholders and elected officials in the states on earned media opportunities;
- Supporting the States Communications Director in the day-to-day operations of the team;
- Occasional on-the-record work and reporter outreach;
- Performing other duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- 4-6 years of experience in political communications or similar;
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills across multiple media;
- Sharp organizational and leadership skills;
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment.
- On the record experience is preferred but not required for this role.
- Management experience is strongly preferred for this role.
- This position reports to the States Communications Director.
The starting salary for the Deputy State Communications Director position is $90,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
Travel: The Deputy State Communications Director position will require travel, which could be up to 30% of the time.
