The controller is responsible for helping the CFO and Deputy CFO implement and oversee day-to-day financial operation and supervision over accounting, treasury management, budgeting and reporting systems and applications for the DNC and any affiliated entities.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the daily accounting operations and serve as the primary interface for all day-to-day accounting matters with staff and outside parties and consultants
    • Responsible for all general accounting, treasury management, disbursements/accounts payable, receipts/accounts receivable.
    • Lead preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and annual audited GAAP financial statements with footnotes
    • Recruit, train and supervise all finance/accounting staff
    • Work closely with the compliance team to ensure that transactions are recorded in accordance with FEC regulations and so that FEC reports can be efficiently compiled.
    • Assist compliance team to address FEC Requests for Additional Information and other correspondence from the FEC
    • Monitor expenditures and revenue recording to ensure proper tracking of financial activity
    • Work with the CFO and COO to ensure compliance with DNC policies related to expenditures 
    • Work with the budget director and CFO to develop accurate and useful management reports.
    • Development, document, and implementation and verification of internal controls
    • Direct and manage the documentation of accounting policies and procedures
    • Coordinate the annual external audit
    • Ensure that all sales and use taxes are accurately and timely filed.
    • Ensure that federal, state, and local tax returns are accurately and timely filed.
    • Serve as system administrator for all donation tracking systems, expense tracking system, bank and merchant accounts, and accounting system
    • Additional miscellaneous financial projects. 
    • Keep abreast of accounting and regulatory requirements, including changes in FASB, FEC, IRS, DOL and other oversight organizations.
    • Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required 
    • CPA required preferred
    • Public Accounting and non-profit experience preferred
    • Knowledge of FEC compliance regulations preferred
    • 7-10 years of Accounting experience, with 2 years in a managerial position required
    • Advanced experience with spreadsheets (MS Excel/Google Sheets) required
    • Experience with Sage Intacct, Ultipro, and Quickbase a plus
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written format 
The starting salary for the Controller position is $120,000, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

This is a full-time, exempt position that may require work on weekends.
