POSITION SUMMARY
The IT Systems Engineer II serves as an advanced proficient technologist for DNWest’s network, physical, and virtual enterprise infrastructure ensuring reliability, security, and resilience. The role assists with the evaluation, procurement, installation, configuration, and maintenance of systems/network equipment and software. The role also assists with the management and maintenance of DNWest’s telecom infrastructure, including network trunks, SaaS telephony providers, and contact center routing/workflow. The IT Systems Engineer II assists with the development, implementation, and management of policies and procedures in adherence to DNWest’s goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This individual in this role performs critical functions such as system performance tuning and data backup/recovery, maintenance of data and SAN file systems, and consistent system configuration monitoring and integrity verification. The role participates in organizational audits, continuous process improvement projects, and exhibits quality work practice to lead others by example.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Active Directory: Assists with managing active directory infrastructure and supports IT Services with end user accounts.
- Backup Management: Manages and tests data backup strategies, routine system backups, and data recovery processes.
- Budget Planning: Participates in annual budget planning.
- Business Continuity: Supports and maintains DNWest’s business continuity and contingency plans.
- Cabling & Wireless: Assists with managing cabling and wireless infrastructure at multiple offices.
- Capacity Planning: Participates in capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals.
- Co-location Management: Assists with managing co-location rack/s and all equipment contained.
- Cyber Incident Response: Contributes to and managers IT Service response to DNWest Cyber Incident response Plan.
- Data Center Systems: Assist with specification, design, installation, and implementation of data center systems.
- Data Integrity & Security: Ensures the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers and databases.
- Data Transfer Security: Ensures security during data transfer according to business needs and industry best-practices.
- Email Management: Assists with managing email (Microsoft Exchange) and connection solutions.
- Firewall and DNS: Assists with managing DNWest’s Firewall, DNS, and IP infrastructure.
- Network Asset Management: Assists with management of LAN/WAN infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points. Monitors network performance and troubleshoots connectivity issues. Implements and maintains network security protocols, VPNs, and firewall policies. Works with ISPs and external vendors for network-related projects and issues.
- Network & Security Audits: Assists with managing network and security audits.
- Network & Server Systems: Supports development of network and server systems, business continuity practice, maintenance, and testing.
- Network Asset Management: Assists with managing network asset management, including inventory and documentation.
- Network Directories: Develops, implements, and manages network directories.
- OPO Industry: Keeps up to date with OPO industry direction, guidance, and requirements.
- Peripheral Management: Assists with managing connections of fleet printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
- Policies & Documentation: Assists with developing, managing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and system configuration documentation for DNWest systems.
- Problem Resolution: Anticipates, mitigates, identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware and software problems.
- Project Support: Supports the Business Intelligence and Development group throughout project lifecycles.
- Reporting: Provides performance, project status, and security reports on a weekly and monthly basis for management.
- Research: Assists with managing and conducting research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards.
- Security & Compliance: Applies patches, updates, and hardening procedures to servers and network devices. Participates in audits and compliance reporting (e.g., HIPAA, SOC 2, etc.). Maintains backup systems and participates in disaster recovery planning and testing.
- Server Management: Assists with managing and maintains all DNWest servers, operating systems, application software, and network equipment.
- SharePoint Farm: Works with the Business Intelligence and Development group to maintain SharePoint Farm.
- Improvements: Recommends, schedules, and manages software and hardware improvements.
- Storage Management: Performs capacity planning and management of storage spaces and SAN's.
- System Administration: Supports Windows and Linux servers (installation, patching, configuration). Assists with managing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Objects. Maintains system documentation, including configurations and standard operating procedures. Responds to and resolves incidents and service requests in a timely manner.
- System Analysis: Assists with managing and analyzing system, server, application, network, and device performance.
- System Snapshots: Assists with managing all server system snapshots and replications.
- Telephony Systems: Deploys, supports, and manages telephony systems, including telephony networks, cloud applications, contact center services, call flows, and provider management.
- Training & Conferences: Attends training seminars, conferences, and trade shows to broaden knowledge of emerging issues and technologies.
- Vendor Management: Collaborates with vendors, manages relationships, participates in negotiations, and escalates incidents as necessary.
- VMware Administration: Deploy, configure, and manage VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter, vSAN). Monitor and optimize virtual server performance and capacity. Perform virtual machine backups, snapshots, and migrations. Troubleshoot virtualization issues and implement corrective measures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
- Strong technical knowledge of networking, PC, and platform operating systems, including all Microsoft products, VMWare and VSphere, Storage Area Network (SAN) systems, Internet Protocol Security (IPSEC), security certificate management, wide area networking design, and telephony technology and services.
- Extensive application support and management experience with Microsoft products, Structured Query Language (SQL) Server database environments, and antivirus systems.
- Strong knowledge of systems security best practices, applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Strong knowledge of local area network design and administration; wired and wireless.
- Working knowledge of carrier networks and management i.e., fiber point to point broadband, satellite, and Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS).
- Solid knowledge of remote management of servers and server farms.
- Strong expertise of telecommunication systems and VoIP networking.
- Proven documentation skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science and at least 3 years of IT infrastructure administration experience.
- Required: Equivalent of 7 years of direct System Administrator work experience may be substituted for a college diploma or university degree.
- Required: At least 3 years of direct work experience implementing and managing VMWare solutions and infrastructure.
- Required: At least 2 years of direct work experience managing storage area network (SAN) solutions and infrastructure.
- Required: At least 2 years of direct work experience implementing and managing VOIP solutions and infrastructure.
- Preferred: Experience working within a healthcare environment.
- Preferred: Experience working with Fortinet appliances and services.
- Preferred: VMWare certification (VMWare Certified Professional)
- Preferred: Microsoft certification (Azure, Server)
