General Description:
This position is for an individual who can skillfully operate a molecular-beam epitaxy system for deposition of III-V compound semiconductor films for production of infrared focal plane arrays.
 
Essential Duties:
Candidate will execute recipes for deposition of infrared detector device structures using molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE).  Candidate will maintain database of records of MBE growths, including sensor data, growth system operating parameters, and postgrowth wafer characterization.  Candidate will take lead role in maintaining MBE system operation, including functioning as interface to internal equipment support group, as well as external vendors, for execution of repair and maintenance activities on MBE systems.
 
Required Skills: 
Direct hands-on experience over a period > 3 years with the operation and maintenance of MBE systems is required.  An understanding of ultrahigh vacuum system hardware (pumps, controllers, seals, effusion cells) is required.  Knowledge of semiconductor materials physics and epitaxial growth techniques, as well as the ability to relate basic material and physical characteristics to device performance is essential.  Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, MBE equipment, and common electronic test equipment is required.  The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is necessary to facilitate interaction with customers, colleagues, and vendors.
 
Required Education:
Minimum of a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or related field with an emphasis on semiconductor materials and optoelectronic devices.
 
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work safely in laboratory settings including semiconductor processing and materials growth areas and clean room facilities.  Must be capable of working around toxic and hazardous materials with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.  Certification for Supplied-Air Respirator usage will be required.  Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces, have the capacity for lifting heavy objects, and possess both visual and hearing acuity.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $99,705 - $124,683 + bonus + benefits.
