General Description:
Lead activities in quantum communication and quantum sensing, including technical leadership on projects ensuring mission success, advice to executive management on near and long-term strategies, and customer engagement to advance the growth of relevant programs consistent with HRL’s core-competencies and business interests.
The candidate will possess a rare combination of expert-level technical expertise in the field, have deep insight into the state and directions of quantum communications and sensing technologies, have a clear vision of their own desired technology trajectory, and have innovative ideas for technology advancement at both component and system level. The role will further require superb presentation and writing skills as well as clear, organized understanding of requirements in terms of resources and technical personnel needed to execute and perform on programs, including the ability to manage those persons, to lead recruitment efforts to attract the best talent.
Essential Duties:
High-level technical management of key programs at HRL. Technical and programmatic program direction. Program risk and opportunity analysis. Proposal writing, networking with external program managers, identifying and seeding opportunities in relevant areas. Write papers, patents, and present at conferences.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 10 years or more of experience working with quantum networking components, systems, vendors, and key funding agencies in the field.
Required Skills:
Expertise in most of the following areas: quantum optics, quantum networking, integrated photonics, deployed optical experiments. Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly.
Superb communication skills (verbal and written), superior presentation skills, active participation in R&D team activities.
Required Education:
Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, EE or related fields
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment. Willingness to travel occasionally.
Special Requirements:
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $158,400 - $198,000 + bonus + benefits.
