Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art. 

We are seeking a motivated and organized Computational Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers in support of developing novel materials and systems relevant to the automotive, aerospace and defense industries. The individual will be responsible for developing multiphysics, multiscale modeling and simulation (M&S) tools in support of a wide variety of materials and device-level programs. The candidate will interface with other engineers and scientists to guide the design and development of new materials and systems.

Essential Duties:
Develop models and perform calculations with finite element analysis (FEA) and multiphysics computational tools (eg, Comsol or similar) to simulate real-world designs and devices.
Develop system- and subsystem-coupled models that incorporate experimental data and predict system performance; iterate designs with system engineers to optimize system design.
Brief internal and external customers
Attend and present at conferences
Write research proposals, patent disclosures and journal publications.
Prior experience developing and executing multiphysics, multiscale modeling and simulation tools is essential
Some experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is preferred.
Experience with specific multiphysics modules, such as CFD, Electromagnetics, Fuel Cell & Electrolyzer is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Excellent problem solving and written and verbal communication skills.

Required Education:   
PhD or Master’s degree with 2+ years of research experience in computational chemistry, materials science, physics, mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline.

Special Requirements:
U.S. Person status required (US citizen or green card). May be required to travel.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $128,900 - $157,900 + bonus + benefits.
