Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art. 

Join a dynamic team of research and development engineers and scientists developing first-of-its-kind prototypes with a focus on aerospace and automotive industries. Assist in the development and testing of new materials and designs for magnetics, electric motors, and lightweight materials. Work both independently and as a key member of project teams. Follow detailed instructions and recommend next steps for technology development. Position requires frequent technical communication with team members and customers, including oral and written reporting.

Essential Duties:
Prepare, process, test and analyze magnetic materials and lightweight materials.

Desired Skills:
Experience in a university research lab, national lab, or industrial research & development company is desired. Experience with a programming language (e.g. Python, Matlab) for data acquisition and/or analysis is highly desired. Experience in FEA modeling is a plus. Experience with composite processing, lay-up, or work with polymers is a plus.

Required Education: 
Currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field. Coursework covering magnetism and mechanics of materials.

Term: 
4 months minimum. 6 months maximum. Summer 2024 start preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of working safely in a laboratory and performing extended analysis at computer workstations. 

Special Requirements:
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $30 - $35 per hour.
Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
