General Description:
The Advanced Test Systems department is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a diverse team of engineers and scientists to develop state of the art low noise cryogenic systems in support of advancing HRL’s world-leading silicon quantum dot technologies. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for the design, simulation, and development of a wide variety of systems and components. The candidate will interface with system architects, electrical engineers, and scientists to derive requirements and develop cryogenic systems. The ideal candidate has excellent engineering fundaments in hardware design, the initiative to identify technical problems, and the creativity to generate novel solutions.

Essential Duties:
Lead the design of cryogenic test systems leveraging experience in fields ranging from mechanical hardware design, modeling/simulation, to systems engineering practices.
Develop mechanical CAD designs, GD&T, and drawings of complex mechanical parts and assemblies.
Manage product structure definitions, BOMs, and hardware configurations.
Perform mechanical analyses (e.g. thermal, structural) to ensure designs meet requirements.
Lead design reviews and validate designs from other team members.
Support integration and test efforts for hardware validation.
Provide oversight and mentoring to junior engineers.
Develop processes and guidelines for mechanical designers.
Support team members in defining project scope and reporting status.
Summarize design efforts in written documents and oral presentations.
Write proposals, define project scopes, develop schedules, and budget for multidisciplinary efforts.

Required Skills: 
Experience with CAD and PDM tools (preferably Solidworks).
Working knowledge of heat transfer, simulation tools, and programming languages.
Experience informing design decisions from ambiguous variables.
Experience in leading a team towards an objective/mission.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Education:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with at least 8 years of industry experience.

Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship is required.
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $145,745 - $186,688 + bonus + benefits.
