Emsi is seeking an economist/data scientist who is laser-focused on producing innovative data sets, metrics, and reports that solve our economic and workforce development clients’ most pressing problems. The successful applicant will be passionate about driving economic prosperity in local communities by developing and bringing to market decision-ready data and insights.

Job Responsibilities

    • Work with our product, engineering, and consulting teams to creatively tackle complex labor market/economic data projects
    • Research and evaluate the latest economic theory and government/private datasets to produce insights that help our clients grow their local economies
    • Build and iterate on prototypes and data sets that quickly solve client problems
    • Understand what drives our economic and workforce development customers and how Emsi can add value to their organizations through data-focused products and reports

Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in economics, mathematics, or statistics, with a strong emphasis on statistical modeling and economic theory
    • At least one year of work experience performing statistical or economic analysis, preferably in a social science or policy-related field
    • High proficiency using statistical packages such as R, Python, or SAS
    • Experience working with large labor market-related data sets; terabytes and larger
    • Ability to look at the numbers, trends, and data to derive conclusions based on findings
    • Proven ability to work effectively to meet goals and deadlines with minimal supervision
    • Highly creative problem-solving skills and an ability to tailor efforts based on importance of the issue being addressed
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment
